Springfield’s movie theater, the Aztec Theater is a premium item that, like Springfield Observatory, is one that many people overlook. If you’re one of them, it may be worth thinking again – and here’s why:
1. It earns you a solid $200 and 20 XP every 8 hours.
2. As a “cash register” building, it boosts the Consumerism rating on your Conform-o-meter.
3. It’s a similar size and shape to Moe’s Tavern (although just slightly bigger), making it very easy to place anywhere in your town.
4. It gives Bart something extra to do – a 3-hour task that earns more than his 4-hour task, as you can see here:

5. It also gives Comic Book Guy what he would probably call the “Worst.Task.Ever.” – but it’s a 6-hour task that earns more than his regular 8-hour task:

6. If you have Squeaky-Voice Teen, it also gives him something else to put on his résumé:

And here are a couple of reasons why you may decide not to buy it or you may decide to put it off until later:
1. No new characters come with it, which is always a bit disappointing for a building.
2. You don’t have Bart, Comic Book Guy, or Squeaky Voice Teen yet, which would mean that it sat unused and unloved.
3. Bart really shouldn’t be allowed to see R-rated movies.
On balance, I think it’s a good purchase – and this is mainly because, like the Springfield Observatory, it helps a regular character do a task at a premium rate. I’m still waiting for the Itchy and Scratchy Movie, though.

Is it just me or is the Donut currency in TSTO ridiculously high? IMHO even with the 25 % Christmas sale , the packages where very expensive.
I was considering buying some new premium buildings, I thought of the $49 package (which already an extreme amount of money for an F2P game) So I did some calculations and basically I would get 5 or 6 of the buildings I wanted. This puts a $10 price tag on each building that I wanted..
I have played various of free iPhone games the last years and for around $10-$20 you will get a insane boost that easily give you a at-least 1 month head start of others + numbers of premium buildings..
I would love to hear your thoughts on this TSTO Tips.
I check your blog everyday and love it, its always so good and informative posts. Great job!
Hi – I’ve noticed prices creeping up – EA seem to be trying to find out what the market will bear.
It’s quite annoying to have the Squeaky Voice Teen and not have the Aztec Theater as 4 hours tasks are the most convenient to send your characters to during the day (at least for me). It sucks to have to choose between a 60min task or a 8 hours task, it’s such a big difference… which is why I’m saving to buy the Aztec Theatre, soon. Well, that and the other reasons you mentioned of course.
The Aztec is a really good purchase IMO… Looks very cool, and the premium paid tasks for ordinary characters are a big bonus.
It is a great building! And I love the way the sign lights up when someone is completing a task there!!
I bought it and never-ever regretted the purchase!!
Thank you for reminding me that tasks in the theater generate more cash and xp than in other buildings – I tend to forget about that.
I like the flashing lights when a characters is carrying out a task inside the theater. It’s a pitty that buildings like Skips diner or the hairdresser don’t show any signs when characters are indoors.
I like the Aztec. It doesn’t cost too many donuts and it adds to the variety of my town’s buildings. The bonus quests are decent too.
I personally find the Aztec Theater cool despite my initial hesitation to get it because it doesn’t come with any premium characters. Once I got the Squeaky-voiced teen, I realized that the Aztec theater is worth acquiring after all. I also like the fact that both Bart and the CBG (Comic Book Guy) can use it as well, albeit for the wrong reasons in their part.
Does it really boost the Consumerism rating? I thought it was only buildings that have a cash register icon that did that.
Ummm – I must be having one of those days. Thanks Will – you’re absolutely right!
Thanks for confirming that! I actually wasn’t sure.
No problem
Hi will – I checked again – it does have a cash register, so that means it does boost the Consumerism rating after all – I’ve reupdated the post!
Oops! Sorry about that. I really thought I saw a wad of cash before, but this morning it was definitely a cash register. I’m happy to be proven wrong. Consumerism is the one rating I’m having trouble with.
That’s very strange. I just built the Aztec and it added half a star to my obedience ranking but nothing to my consumerism ranking.
That’s interesting, Brendan. I wobder if it’s registering as a public building?
It also gives comic book guy a 6 hour task as well.
Thanks both – not sure how I missed that one! It’s one of my favorite tasks!
It also gives Comic Book Guy a 6 hour, premium rate task! Watch and Despise Movie! Or something like that.
I believe comic book guy also has a task of “watch and despise a flick” with the building.
You’re absolutely right – I’ll update the post!
