There are only four tasks that make up Respectable Moe’s quest – but, as many of you will already have discovered, the length of a couple of the tasks means that it all takes at least 3 days to play in real time. So, here’s what happens once you get the message that Moe has a new suit and you can find it in your Inventory:

1. Moe’s New Suit Part 1 Once you put the suit on Moe, his quest begins (no other characters need to be free at this stage):
Moe: What’s this? A suit! And in my thin-shouldered hunch-backed Quasimodo size!
Homer: Wow Moe! When you wear it, it looks like you’re standing up straight!
Moe: That’s because I AM standing up straight. For the first time in my life I’ve got self-loathing!
Homer: You mean “self-confidence”?
Moe: Yeah, that one. I’m just so used to saying the other.
Feeling unusually good, Respectable Moe spends the next 12 hours strutting in the suit. Keep Homer and Marge free for the next part.

2. Moe’s New Suit Part 2 Homer really notices the difference in Moe:

image
Marge: I’m just glad to see him doing something other than leering at me from a bush.
Homer: Hey Moe! Marge and I were thinking of going out for a bite. Normally we wouldn’t invite you on account of you being unpleasant and unpresentable and… well, you, know, you. But now you’ve got that suit, we don’t mind being seen with you in public.
Moe: That’s the nicest thing anyone’s ever said to me.
Homer: So what do you say we grab dinner at Luigi’s?
Moe: Screw that! Let’s go someplace fancy!
Homer: Um… okay.
Moe: And we’ll get drinks and appetizers and entrees and desserts!
Homer: I don’t know…
Moe: And the whole dinner will be your treat!
Homer: Maybe this isn’t such a good idea.
Moe: Too late! I already called ahead and ordered one of everything on the menu.
Now, if you already have the Gilded Truffle, you can continue with the quest. If you don’t, you’re going to have to get to it in your regular game (limited-time quests never let you jump ahead to the buildings you need). Once you have it, though, you’ll be able to send Homer, Marge and Respectable Moe to dine there for 2 hours at Homer’s expense.

3. Moe’s New Suit Part 3 Moe enjoyed himself…

image
Marge: You’re more than welcome Moe. It’s so nice to see you looking so slick. Is there “someone special” we don’t know about?
Moe: No. This suit can do a lot of things, but even it can’t make me attractive to dames.
Marge suggests that if Moe stopped referring to women as dames, that might help a little bit. And that it also might be an idea to clean up his bar because it looks like a pigsty.
So, Moe takes Marge’s advice and spends the next 2 days doing just that (2 days! With the task that’s part of the Rich Texan’s quest, this seems to be a something new to make shorter quests go for a little longer – and given its placement on the task list, it seems to be a permanent task!)

The conversation when the clean-up is over is one of my favorites of the game:

image
Moe: Yeah, but I still haven’t met anyone. Where are all the women in this town?
Homer: I hear you, buddy – it took me 15 levels to find Marge!
Moe: *sigh* It’s like I’m trapped in a world created by a bunch of writers who don’t know anything about women.

4. Moe’s New Suit Part 4 Moe is resigned to the fact that the town is short on female characters and, therefore, a potential love interest:

Moe: There’s a saying – unlucky at love, lucky at getting drunk. I’m going to distil some 15-year-old whiskey. Let’s hope it doesn’t actually take 15 years, like that growing corm at Cletus’ Farm job.
Luckily, it only takes 24 hours!

image
Ands that’s where Respectable Moe’s quest ends. If you’re in the US, be sure to watch Sunday night’s episode, Whiskey Business, to find out what it all means!

Drederick Tatum (Springfield’s thinly-disguised answer to Mike Tyson) arrives with the Springfield Coliseum as part of the ninth prize in the Whacking Day event – and with him comes a short quest that involves a tiger, a dinner at the Gilded Truffle, and some differing views on what it takes to stay in shape.

image
1. The Champ’s Come-Back Part 1 Whack 10000 snakes and win the Springfield Coliseum and Tatum. The Coliseum will be delivered to your Inventory (the cardboard box in the left-hand corner of your build menu) and its construction will take 24 hours.

image
When it’s done, Drederick Tatum join your merry band of New Springfielders as one of your new and improved group of B-List Celebrities.

image
2. The Champ’s Come-Back Part 2 Tatum is less than happy to be back in Springfield. One of the first people he encounters is Apu (who doesn’t need to be free).

image
Apu: Drederick Tatum! What an honor! I studied your “Rock ‘em, Sock ‘em” workouts to learn how to defend my Kwik-E-Mart.
Tatum: Those DVDs paid for a lake house in Switzerland… for my accountant after he stole my money. I’ve had to scale back my extravagant lifestyle. Now if you’ll excuse me, I have to go walk my tiger.
Which is what he does for the next 4 hours. Keep Homer free as he finishes.

image
3. The Champ’s Come-Back Part 3 Homer is impressed by Tatum’s tiger…

image
Tatum: Homer Simpson! It’s been too long since I gave you severe brain damage.
Homer: Oh, don’t worry. My tough is brain.
Tatum: Let me buy you a big unhealthy dinner. After the beating I gave you, I think it’s only fair I help you die faster so you can no longer feel pain.
If you haven’t got to level 16 yet in your regular game, you’ll have to wait until you do to build the Gilded Truffle and send Tatum and Homer there to dine together for 2 hours.

4. The Champ’s Come-Back Part 4 It’s a good meal at the Truffle as always – and it also serves to highlight just how the phrase “stay in shape” can mean different things to different people…

image
Homer: And I need to take a nap so I can stay in shape. That shape is spherical.
Tatum gets into his running gear and spends the next 24 hours jogging around New Springfield – while Homer assumes his favorite position and spends only 4 hours way over-sleeping for a power nap (which is much better time management!).

And that’s where we leave Tatum and Homer – which means that if you want to send Tatum to fight at the Springfield Coliseum, you’re going to need to do it yourself.

Carl’s Rise up the Ladder is the third of the four level 27 quests. It takes place immediately after Lenny’s Downfall. Mr. Burns and Carl need to be free when Lenny gets out of jail to begin this next stage of the story.

Here’s the walkthrough (it’s a much shorter quest than Lenny’s Downfall):

1. Carl’s Rise up the Ladder Part 1 Burns has a problem that he needs Smithers to solve:

image
Smithers: But sir, we only have two other employees. And one of them is Homer Simpson.
Burns: Then we’ll have to promote the other one.
Carl: Thank you, Mr Burns, but I’ve reached the phase of Buddhist enlightenment where I feel no attachment to material wealth.
Burns: I’m willing to give you a sixty-percent raise and a four month signing bonus.
Carl: Thanks again. I’ve never really tried being rich before. Executive washroom, here I come!
Burns: Excellent. Let’s, shall we say, seal the deal. I hope dinner at 5:30pm is not too late.
And Carl goes to dinner at Burns Manor (2 hours – keep Smithers free as he finishes).
2. Carl’s Rise up the Ladder Part 2 To celebrate his first day in his new position, Smithers and Carl go to Moe’s for Apple-tinis (4 hours – keep Kent Brockman free as they finish).

image
3. Carl’s Rise up the Ladder Part 3 Carl is now moving in a different social circle. As the minorities need to stick together (and Carl is a little surprised that Brockman qualifies as a member of any minority), Brockman suggests that they go and eat at Springfield’s pricey restaurants – El Chemistri and the Gilded Truffle (2 hours together at each restaurant for a total of 4 hours – keep Homer and Lenny free as they finish).

The story continues in True Bromance

With business as usual in Springfield (although that still inlcludes some extended St. Patrick’s Day business), here’s part 2 of the list of animations that tell you when a character is inside a building.

While you can tap on a building to see who’s inside, the animations are an extra bit of fun. Part 2 covers all the regular buildings currently available from Jake’s Unisex Hair Palace on. You can see Part 1, covering all the buildings up to Moe’s tavern here. Premium buildings will be covered in a separate post.

Jake’s Unisex Hair Palace - there doesn’t appear to be any animation
Springfield Downs - the dog-racing animation runs when the dogs are actually racing and when characters are visiting the track
The Gilded Truffle - the windows on the second floor light up (flickering candles and people having a good time)
King Toot’s - no animations
Police Station - flashing red and white lights
Skip’s Diner - no animations
Luigi’s – smoke rises from the pipes on the roof
Springfield Penitentiary - searchlights
Retirement Castle - no animations
Town Hall - shadows moving in the windows
Muntz House - a raccoon runs onto the roof and chews some electrical wires
Krabappel Apartment - a window on the second floor opens and cigarette smoke is blown out
Channel 6 – the satellite dish rotates (when either someone is doing a task or a program is being made)
Springfield Post Office - the front doors open and mail blows out
Hibbert Family Practice - shadows move in the windows
Springfield General Hospital - the lights on the helipad on the roof flash
Burns Manor - a vulture flies out of the dome and sits on the roof
Pimento Grove - sadly unused, so no animation
Wiggum House - flashing red and blue police lights
El Chemistri - it doesn’t get any use after the level 26 quest, but I’m sure there was animation…

Part 3, focusing on the premium buildings, is still to come.

At this stage of the game it’s a long journey before you get any new characters, but the buildings come fairly quickly. With one more restaurant and one more shop, that’s healthy for both your Consumerism and Gluttony ratings on your Conform-o-meter.

This walkthrough looks at game level 16. It takes you through unlocking the Gilded Truffle and King Toot’s. Remember, though, that level 16 is really the minimum level you need – frequent players with lots of friends may well be at a much higher XP bar level before any of these buildings unlock.

Another important point is this – some players have reported a delay between placing their first bet Springfield Downs and the start of the Gilded Truffle quest. If this is you, don’t worry, as things seems to start moving again on their own. Just keep all your characters in similar length tasks, do all the randon tasks that come up, don’t hurry any of them into new tasks too quickly, and everything should be okay.

Remember that Marge needs to be free as Homer at the end of the Springfield Downs build (keep Bart, Milhouse, Ned, Moe and Reverend Lovevoy free as well to be safe – their tasks may seem random, but these were the ones that I had in both my games and so have other people):

1. Quicky at the Kwik-E Moe shops at the Kwik-E-Mart (1 hour – this may come up earlier)
2. Quicky at the Kwik-E Ned shops at the Kwik-E-Mart (1 hour – this may come up earlier)
3. Can’t Live with ‘em, Still can’t Live with ‘em Reverend Lovejoy counsels couples (24 hours – this may come up earlier)
4. Teamwork! Milhouse goes to school (6 hours) and, at the same time, Bart skips school (8 hours – this task may come up earlier)
5. Time to Clean House Starting down the path to building the Gilded Truffle, Marge cleans the house, which has got very untidy while she’s been away (3 hours)
6. Actions Speak Louder Than Quietly Whining There’s no monorail in the new Springfield, but Marge protests something anyway (24 hours, although we’re not exactly sure what she’s protesting – keep Homer free as she finishes)
7. What’s in the Back Room? Making a bit of money on the side, Moe smuggles endangered species (8 hours and one of my favorite animations in the game – this task may come up earlier)
8. Truffle Surprise Part 1 The Gilded Truffle is close – but first, Homer has to visit the track (3 hours)
9. Truffle Surprise Part 2 Getting closer still, Homer shops at the Kwik-E-Mart (1 hour – keep Marge free as finishes to be safe)
10. Truffle Surprise Part 3 Homer and Marge interact to prompt you to build the Gilded Truffle – which happens because, when Marge goes to makes reservations, she realizes that it hasn’t been rebuilt yet (24 hours and $31,000 – keep Homer and Marge free as the build finishes)
11. Truffle Surprise Part 4 In a simultaneous task, Homer and Marge dine at the Gilded Truffle (2 hours each – and it really is nice to make them do this at the same time – keep Principal Skinner and Lisa free as they finish)
12. The Mysterious Brown House Part 4 Somewhere about this stage of the game, the Brown House gets a new use, as Cletus sneaks in to harvest copper wire (3 hours)
13. We Don’t Sell myPods Part 1 Principal Skinner and Lisa interact to start you on the path to building King Toot’s. Before you can do that, though, Lisa needs to play her sax three times (4 hours each)
14. We Don’t Sell myPods Part 2 Three times was too much, it turns out:

image
Lisa: Oh no, I just broke my last reed! This is a woodwind emergency!
And with that King Toot’s is ready to build (24 hours and $37,000 – keep Apu free as the build finishes to begin the Police Station quest)

The walkthroughs will continue…

The gluttony rating is one of the elements of your conformity bonus – and one of the easiest to get to 5 stars (you can open up your Conform-o-meter and check where you are by tapping on the stars at the bottom left of your main screen). You keep your gluttony rating high, and help to maximize your conformity bonus, by having enough restaurants for your town size. In fact anything that has a menu over it when you go to collect cash helps the gluttony rating.

Keeping it at the maximum was made a little easier by the Valentine’s Day update and the release of Phineas Q. Butterfat’s, and helped again with the release of El Chemistri at level 26. At higher levels you have the benefit of the full restaurant range – both Butterfat’s and El Chemistri, but also Gulp ‘n’ Blow, Krusty Burger, the Java Server, the Gilded Truffle, Luigi’s and Pimento Grove.

If you’re at a lower level or have a very large town, your choices for additional places to eat and keep your gluttony rating high are limited – but that’s why you can buy additional Krusty Burgers or Gulp ‘n’ Blows from level 12 on. So, how many of these do you need? Well, that depends on your land area – I have 2 Krusty Burgers and 3 Gulp ‘n’ Blows in addition to the other restaurants, and my gluttony rating stays high even when I buy more land. And that helps me keep the 5% bonus cash and XP I’ve grown to love.

The Squeaky Voice Teen is one of my favorite minor Simpson’s characters. Through the course of the show he has had just about every low-paying job going in Springfield, including working at Krusty Burger, the Aztec Theater, Gulp ‘n’ Blow, Lard Lad Donuts, IRS Burger, Shakespeare’s Fried Chicken, TacoMat, Eatie Gourmet’s Health Food Store, Kidstown USA, Noiseland Arcade, Springfield Barber College, Springfield Air Show, Springfield War Memorial Stadium, the Car Wash, Springfield Googolplex Theatres, Springfield Wax Museum, Springfield International Airport, Monty Burns Casino, Springfield Public Access Channel 3 and Clumsy Student Movers – the list goes on and on.

So, should you spend your hard-earned donuts on him? Here are a few reasons why:

1. He’s cheap – in fact, for a premium character, he’s a bargain at just 30 donuts.

2. He has jobs at many of the buildings in your Springfield, including Krusty Burger, the Gilded Truffle, the Java Server and Jake’s Unisex Hair Palace. If you decide to buy the Aztec Theater, he also works there.

3. As a premium character, he earns you a higher rate of cash and XP for his tasks than your regular characters do.

4. His parents would be so proud.

And here are a few reasons why you might decide to pass on him (at least for now):

1. If you don’t have the buildings you need for his tasks, he doesn’t have a lot to do. For example, if you don’t have any of the extra buildings he needs, all he will initially be able to do is advertise burgers for 24 hours. And buying him doesn’t help you build the other buildings any faster.

2. You could luck out and get him in a Mystery Box instead of spending donuts on him.

3. He doesn’t come with a building to help fill up your Springfield.

So, make your decision. Personally, I think he’s worth the 30 donuts if you buy him at the right stage of your game.
