With the end of Whacking Day and the start of the Yard Sale, I’ve been running a little behind on the level 29 walkthough. In part 2 (which you can find here), we left Principal Skinner and Mrs. Krabappel hosting detention twice while Lisa, Bart, Nelson, Ralph and Martin all staying back after school 3 times each. When that all winds up, Agnes wants our attention – and Seymour’s.

1. There are Skinners and Winner Part 4 Agnes is as unhappy with the “stay late in detention” Agnes-avoidance strategy as Mrs. Krabappel and the kids are:

image
Principal Skinner: It’s called a “school”, Mother, and it’s my job.
Agnes: Well, I need your help with my crossword. What’s a five-letter word for “someone who fails”? I tried “Seymour”, but it doesn’t fit.
Principal Skinner: *sigh* L-O-S-E-R
Agnes: Thanks. I knew you’d be an expert.
Agnes spends the next 8 hours doing crossword puzzles – without her son’s help. Keep Bart free as she finishes.

2. The World is my Teacher Part 1 Bart realizes that his plan to make Skinner’s life miserable has backfired…

image
So, Bart spends 8 hours skipping school. Keep Principal Skinner free as he finishes.

3. The World is my Teacher Part 2 Skinner catches Bart in mid-truancy…

image
Principal Skinner: Relax, Bart. I’m not going to punish you. I want to learn from you.
Bart: Trying to get away from that old bat?
Principal Skinner: That lives in the school’s heating duct? No. I’m trying to escape my mother. But she always finds me. I know from years of hide-and-seek research.
Bart: I feel bad… that this somehow happened to you. If you need a place to crash, you can use my treehouse. I just have to evict Milhouse for being behind on his rent.
With Milhouse out on the street, Skinner goes to crash at Bart’s Treehouse for 12 hours. Keep Willie free as he finishes, because he doesn’t find waking up very pleasant – he has one hand in a bowl of water and the other filled with un-canned canned chilli. That’s what happens when a prankster lives so close to his prey, apparently.

4. Couch Surfin’ USA Part 1 Skinner decides he needs to explore other options for places to escape Agnes, and approaches Willie:

image
Principal Skinner: Thanks, Willie. I knew I could count on you to say yes, since you work for me and my request was an order.
Willie: I need this job for me work visa. So make yourself at home, you threatin’-to-call-INS bastard!
Skinner crashes for 12 hours at Willie’s shack (and keep Agnes free as he finishes). He finds the smell overpowering, though. Willie explains it this way:

image
5. Mom is the Loneliest Number Part 1 Agnes is missing her son…

image
Agnes: Seymour…? I should talk with my friends. maybe one of them has spotted where he’s gone.
It turns out, just a little poignantly, that Agnes’ friends are the pigeons. She’ll need a bench where she can sit and ply them with food for an hour in return for information on Seymour’s whereabouts. Keep Edna and Seymour free when she finishes.

The walkthrough will continue…

When we left Agnes and Seymour at the end of the first part of the walkthrough (here), Seymour has escaped to the school to spend 12 hours monitoring the halls for a bit of peace and quiet. With Comic Book Guy and Agnes free when he finishes, here’s what happens next:

1. The Odd-Looking Couple Skinner gets home and there’s a knock at the door:

image
Skinner: Mother, it’s the Harold to your Maude. (Note: See this Wikipedia page for more on this reference.)
Agnes: Comic Book Guy! I can’t believe there’s enough room in this tiny town for your fat behind.
Comic Book Guy: Agnes, is that you skin, or did the Magna Carta loan you its dried up parchment?
Agnes: Don’t wait up for me, Seymour. And don’t come into my room in the morning without knocking first.
In a joint task, Agnes and Comic Book Guy go on a date for two hours.

image
2. There are Winners and Skinners Part 3 Perhaps the date with Comic Book Guy has mellowed Agnes a bit…

image
Skinner: I was planning to do one of the many exciting activities I often do, like bird watching or going to the Kwiki-E-Mart or stargazing, if that’s an option for me yet.
Agnes: I guess this new Springfield is just like the old one – full of you disappointing me.
Skinner: *sigh* Fine, Mother. I’ll stay.
Agnes: Pfft, Momma’s boy.
Definitely not mellowed, then. Agnes and Seymour stay in for silhouette night, which is probably 12 hours of torture for him. Keep Martin free to kick off the next stage of the quest – and you’ll need Lisa, Bart, Nelson, Ralph, Milhouse, and Mrs. Krabappel free as well.

3. Mad with Municipally Funded Power The action moves to Martin, who’s has a bit of a shock:

image
Milhouse: I got one too.
Lisa: It looks like the whole school did.
Skinner: And with the whole school in detention, both Mrs. Krabappel and I will have to stay late to supervise you. Very late.
Edna: You monster! You can’t do this tonight!
Skinner: I’m not. I’m doing this for the next several nights.
And he’s serious. Martin, Lisa, Milhouse, Bart, Ralph, and Nelson all have to serve detention 3 times each at 6 hours a time. Mrs. Krabappel and Principal Skinner will need to host detention twice at 12 hours a piece. Keep Agnes free as he finishes.

The walkthrough continues…

Agnes Skinner arrives in New Springfield with the level 29 update to make Seymour’s life miserable – and just in time for Mother’s Day in the US and other parts of the world, too. (Mother’s Day is May 12 in the US and many other countries.)

If everything were behaving normally, the level 29 quests should begin right after Fat Tony’s quest finishes. With the current glitch in quest progression still in play, it’s difficult to know whether that’s still the case. Either way, you’ll need to be at level 29 for everything to begin. And Luigi and Skinner should be free to kick things off:

1. Principal Plus Interest Everything is going wonderfully in New Springfield and Seymour Skinner has a spring in his step, something that Luigi notices:

image
Skinner: Who wouldn’t smile in this wonderful, new Springfield? Nothing could ruin it.
Bart: Hey Seymour, your office is full of anteaters. Also ants. Also you need to tell the cafeteria to order more honey because your office is full of that too. Heh heh.
Skinner: Delightful! I needed some busy work for Willie. When he has nothing to do, he keeps inviting me to play board games. Now if you’ll excuse me, I’m going to relax and take in the avian grandeur of our fair town.
Luigi: And I will-a-romance the air with a-beautiful sounds of the accordion, the bagpipe of Italy.
Skinner: Terrific. Hopefully, there aren’t any trees near your restaurant.
So Skinner goes off to watch birds for 24 hours, while Luigi spends 12 hours outside his restaurant playing the accordion. Remove all nearby trees for Skinner’s sake and keep Milhouse free as Skinner finishes his task.

2. Hey Milhouse — Eureka! Milhouse his missing his parents…

image
Milhouse: For dinner last night, I sucked on pasta shells until they got soft in my mouth.
Bart: Hmm, Springfielders do tend to appear when we build a new building. That gives me an idea…
Milhouse: To help me not to be an orphan?
Bart: No, to really prank Skinner! We need to bring back the one thing that can get inside his head and ruin his happiness. His mother.
Milhouse: Okay. But if we’re going to build Skinner’s house, we’re going to need a lot more pillows.
This prompts the build of the Skinner House ($196,500 and 24 hours) and unlocks Agnes Skinner. Keep Seymour free as the build finishes.

image

3. There are Skinners and Winners Part 1 Skinner instantly notices the change…

image
Agnes: Thought you’d gotten rid of me, did you. Now put on an apron and tidy up. Turns out limbo is pretty dusty.
Skinner: But Mother…
Agnes: No buts, Seymour. Get to work! When I get back from Bingo tonight, the table top better be clean enough for me to see my disapproving face in it!
And Agnes goes off to spend 4 hours hustling at bingo.

4. There are Skinners and Winners Part 2 Agnes appear to be great at multi-tasking as Seymour notices a few more changes now that she is back.

image
Agnes: You’re darn tooting. There are a lot of naughty pictures in the Wikipedia.
Seymour: I don’t have time to fight you right now – I have to get to work… where no one can tell me what I can and can’t look at, because we don’t have any computers.
Seymour heads off to the relative peace and quiet of a 12-hour day monitoring the halls. Keep Comic Book Guy and Agnes free as he finishes.

The walkthrough will continue…

Once Skinner has finished bird-watching for 24 hours at a safe distance from Luigi’s accordion-playing, Milhouse has a conversation with Bart (who doesn’t need to be free) that prompts the build of the Skinner House. He really wanted his mummy and daddy back, but Bart has other ideas.

image
The Skinner House costs $196,500, takes 24 hours to build and unlocks Agnes Skinner:

image
And this is what it looks like once it’s up:

image
There will be a full building price update once I’ve returned from Japan. Right now, I’m in the lounge trying to clear as many comments as I can before I board my flight – and, no, there’s no wi-fi on this one! :-)

Ever since the Whacking Day update, a number of regular tasks have created problems for a number of people. What seems to happen is that you set the character or characters on the task, go and do something else in the game, and when you come back, they’re walking around aimlessly as if you’ve never given them the task to do. The characters and tasks affected seem to be:

  • Legs and Louie intimidating a squealer
  • Smithers and Burns exercising
  • Bart running away with Kang
  • The Rich Texan riding the Mechanical Bull

I’ve written about the Rich Texan’s problems here and Mike has even made a video about it:

But it’s quite apparent that not everyone is experiencing the same thing. For example, while the Rich Texan won’t stay on his bull in my game, Legs and Louie have no problem intimidating the squealer.

Apart from spending donuts on speeding up the task, this isn’t an easy one to resolve. Some people have got over it through sheer persistence, or by closing the game for the duration of the task. But it only seems to arise if you start the characters on the task, then go and do something else in the game – like moving, building or breaking eggs.

If anyone has come up with any other solutions, please let us all know.

image

When we left Fat Tony, he had just started building his compound (you can read part 1 of the walkthrough here). 36 hours later, his rather palatial residence is complete, and Legs and Louie are back. Read on to see what happens next:

1. Badfellas Legs and Louie return and Fat Tony welcomes them back. Assured that they’ve kept their law-breaking skills sharp, he’s now looking forward to bleeding the town they all love dry. But first, it’s important to toast their touching reunion – so the three of them go off to drink at Moe’s for 8 hours. Keep Bart free as they finish.

2. El-Bartito’s Way With Fat Tony and the gang back, Bart sees an opportunity:

image
Legs: Maybe. Do you know how to mix a Manhattan?
Bart: Umm…booze, some hooch, and then whiskey?
Legs: That’s pretty close, boss. I’ll vouch for him.
Fat Tony: Congratulations, urchin. You are my new bartender.
Bart spends the next 24 hours at the Businessman’s Club serving Manhattans. Keep Marge and Fat Tony free as he finishes.

image
image
3. Casino Racino Marge really isn’t happy about her son’s involvement with the mob. As well as suspending Bart’s TV privileges for a week, she decides to take the matter up with Mayor Quimby:

image
Marge: There are even reports of unsavory characters down at the dog track. Of all places!
Mayor Quimby: Marge, I promise you – this office will not rest until it looks like we’re doing something about the whatever-you’re-on-about. In fact, I’m so against corruption that many people say “Corruption” is my middle name.
Marge: Hmmmm…
So, Marge spends 24 hours protesting while Fat Tony spends 2 hours at the track fixing races. Keep Luigi free as they finish.

More to come…

You’ll probably have noticed that Bart has a locked 10-minute task to run away with Kang. Is that, like Lisa’s meditation task prior to the level 27 update, a sign of things to come? Longer-term players will already know the answer to this one.

Sadly, Kang isn’t a future character – he’s another one of those limited time characters, appearing in the game as part of the Halloween event in October 2012 and now no longer available. He remains part of the Treehouse of Horror XXIII set, a set that for newer players on both Android and Apple will probably always be incomplete. And there’s no guarantee that he’ll ever be available again (in fact, we’re much more likely to get Kodos!).

image
So why do players who don’t have him still see the task? Well, it seems that the game is able to hide tasks related to premium characters and buildings, but not tasks that were part of the regular, free storyline (with the exception of the one-off, hidden tasks that sometimes appear during quests). A similar example is Ned and the Mapple Store – for newer players on both platforms, this remains locked even though the Mapple Store hasn’t been available even for Apple players since the Android launch.

So even if you weren’t playing the game back in Halloween, you’ll still have the locked quest – and that’s only because longer-term game players have him and can use him as part of their regular quests. And that means, sadly, that if you joined the game after Halloween, you’ll never get to see this:

image

This post is coming to you by popular demand. It’s the first of a series of guides to your character collections – when are your characters unlocked and who unlocks them. Thanks to schpeen and @EliteLeafHater for suggesting this.

There are 2 important things to remember: premium characters and premium decorations never unlock anything or anyone in your regular game and that means you can’t unlock the Town Hall and get Mayor Quimby early by buying Bumblebee Man, and buying Mount Carlmore won’t unlock Lenny and Carl; and that the levels referred to are the game levels – frequent players often find that while XP bar takes them up through the levels very quickly, they are still at a much lower level in their regular gameplay (you may be at level 27 for XP, but level 20 for gameplay, for example).

So, following the character sets, here’s the first part of who unlocks whom(and when):

More to come…

Springfield’s movie theater, the Aztec Theater is a premium item that, like Springfield Observatory, is one that many people overlook. If you’re one of them, it may be worth thinking again – and here’s why:

1. It earns you a solid $200 and 20 XP every 8 hours.
2. As a “cash register” building, it boosts the Consumerism rating on your Conform-o-meter.
3. It’s a similar size and shape to Moe’s Tavern (although just slightly bigger), making it very easy to place anywhere in your town.
4. It gives Bart something extra to do – a 3-hour task that earns more than his 4-hour task, as you can see here:

image
5. It also gives Comic Book Guy what he would probably call the “Worst.Task.Ever.” – but it’s a 6-hour task that earns more than his regular 8-hour task:

image
6. If you have Squeaky-Voice Teen, it also gives him something else to put on his résumé:

image
And here are a couple of reasons why you may decide not to buy it or you may decide to put it off until later:

1. No new characters come with it, which is always a bit disappointing for a building.
2. You don’t have Bart, Comic Book Guy, or Squeaky Voice Teen yet, which would mean that it sat unused and unloved.
3. Bart really shouldn’t be allowed to see R-rated movies.

On balance, I think it’s a good purchase – and this is mainly because, like the Springfield Observatory, it helps a regular character do a task at a premium rate. I’m still waiting for the Itchy and Scratchy Movie, though.

image

At this stage of the game it’s a long journey before you get any new characters, but the buildings come fairly quickly. With one more restaurant and one more shop, that’s healthy for both your Consumerism and Gluttony ratings on your Conform-o-meter.

This walkthrough looks at game level 16. It takes you through unlocking the Gilded Truffle and King Toot’s. Remember, though, that level 16 is really the minimum level you need – frequent players with lots of friends may well be at a much higher XP bar level before any of these buildings unlock.

Another important point is this – some players have reported a delay between placing their first bet Springfield Downs and the start of the Gilded Truffle quest. If this is you, don’t worry, as things seems to start moving again on their own. Just keep all your characters in similar length tasks, do all the randon tasks that come up, don’t hurry any of them into new tasks too quickly, and everything should be okay.

Remember that Marge needs to be free as Homer at the end of the Springfield Downs build (keep Bart, Milhouse, Ned, Moe and Reverend Lovevoy free as well to be safe – their tasks may seem random, but these were the ones that I had in both my games and so have other people):

1. Quicky at the Kwik-E Moe shops at the Kwik-E-Mart (1 hour – this may come up earlier)
2. Quicky at the Kwik-E Ned shops at the Kwik-E-Mart (1 hour – this may come up earlier)
3. Can’t Live with ‘em, Still can’t Live with ‘em Reverend Lovejoy counsels couples (24 hours – this may come up earlier)
4. Teamwork! Milhouse goes to school (6 hours) and, at the same time, Bart skips school (8 hours – this task may come up earlier)
5. Time to Clean House Starting down the path to building the Gilded Truffle, Marge cleans the house, which has got very untidy while she’s been away (3 hours)
6. Actions Speak Louder Than Quietly Whining There’s no monorail in the new Springfield, but Marge protests something anyway (24 hours, although we’re not exactly sure what she’s protesting – keep Homer free as she finishes)
7. What’s in the Back Room? Making a bit of money on the side, Moe smuggles endangered species (8 hours and one of my favorite animations in the game – this task may come up earlier)
8. Truffle Surprise Part 1 The Gilded Truffle is close – but first, Homer has to visit the track (3 hours)
9. Truffle Surprise Part 2 Getting closer still, Homer shops at the Kwik-E-Mart (1 hour – keep Marge free as finishes to be safe)
10. Truffle Surprise Part 3 Homer and Marge interact to prompt you to build the Gilded Truffle – which happens because, when Marge goes to makes reservations, she realizes that it hasn’t been rebuilt yet (24 hours and $31,000 – keep Homer and Marge free as the build finishes)
11. Truffle Surprise Part 4 In a simultaneous task, Homer and Marge dine at the Gilded Truffle (2 hours each – and it really is nice to make them do this at the same time – keep Principal Skinner and Lisa free as they finish)
12. The Mysterious Brown House Part 4 Somewhere about this stage of the game, the Brown House gets a new use, as Cletus sneaks in to harvest copper wire (3 hours)
13. We Don’t Sell myPods Part 1 Principal Skinner and Lisa interact to start you on the path to building King Toot’s. Before you can do that, though, Lisa needs to play her sax three times (4 hours each)
14. We Don’t Sell myPods Part 2 Three times was too much, it turns out:

image
Lisa: Oh no, I just broke my last reed! This is a woodwind emergency!
And with that King Toot’s is ready to build (24 hours and $37,000 – keep Apu free as the build finishes to begin the Police Station quest)

The walkthroughs will continue…

A couple of people have written in asking for advice on a problem with a task in the Krabappel quest – Illegitimate Concern Part 2. If you’ve done this already, you’ll know that Edna has to monitor detention while Bart serves detention for skipping school. This is a regular task for Edna, but a hidden task for Bart – it only appears as part of the quest and then disappears from his task list forever.

What’s happened in some cases is this: Bart hasn’t been available, so the player has sent Edna to monitor detention. Bart only becomes available after she has finished – but the task is gone from his task list and, as it’s a hidden task, he can’t be sent to do it. And because Bart can’t do his part of the joint task, game progress stalls, and no further tasks come up.

I’ve suggested every possibility I could find information on – deleting and reinstalling the game, waiting patiently, storing characters and buildings, and selling buildings and re-building. EA has been as helpful as they usually are :-) . Nothing seems to have worked.

So, if anyone has experienced this problem and resolved it or has come across a solution to it, please post it here. Hopefully, between all of us, we can find something to help out players who just want to move on with their games.

For the rest of us, though, it’s a good lesson in keeping tasks synchronized and not sending a character to do a joint task until both characters are ready.

Mrs Edna Krabappel

A Gorgeous Grampa walkthrough is inevitable, particularly as newer players who don’t have the Retirement Castle may have a while to wait before Grampa puts on his costume and grows long, blond hair. If you hate spoilers, go to another post now!

1. Gorgeous Grampa Part 1 To get things moving, both Homer and Grampa need to be free. Once Grampa is in his costume, it’s Homer that kicks off the storyline like this:

image
Gorgeous Grampa: I’m not, you idjit! It’s my old wrestling outfit.
Homer: You? A wrestler? Your whole body looks prolapsed.
Gorgeous Grampa: I used to be oh-so-beefy and beautiful. I could stare at myself for hours.
And that’s when you make Gorgeous Grampa admire himself for 4 hours.

2. Gorgeous Grampa Part 2 Gorgeous Grampa starts the next stage of his quest in a conversation with Bart (I’m fairly sure Bart doesn’t need to be free, but it’s a good idea to make sure he’s not otherwise engaged):

image
Bart: Grampa, really? You were a bad boy? I always thought you were lame.
Gorgeous Grampa: Ha! I was boastful before your rap music jerks and TV beach Italians if today.
Bart: Awesome! Can you come to my show and tell?
So, Gorgeous Grampa goes to a Show and Tell at Bart’s school for 8 hours.

3. Gorgeous Grampa Part 3 Grampa kicks off the third and final stage of the quest in another conversation with Bart (again, keep Bart free, just in case):

image
Gorgeous Grampa: That’s the problem with kids today. They don’t know how to prance and preen.
Following which, Gorgeous Grampa spends 12 hours prancing and preening.

So, it’s a short quest, obviously designed so that most players can complete it before the episode airs in the US. Still, it’s nice to have some variety while we wait for the next big update. And I really like the Gorgeous Grampa costume!

This walkthrough aims to get new players to level 15 before the Valentine’s Day event ends. You can read the previous part here.

We left off just after building the First Church of Springfield and unlocking Reverend Lovejoy. Make sure that Homer and Ned are free when the build finishes.

So, to find out what happens next, read on:

1. Passion of the Flanders Part 2 Homer and Ned attend church and Reverend Lovejoy gives a sermon – appropriately enough, all at the same time (12 hours – keep Bart, Lisa, and Milhouse free as they finish)
2. Passion of the Flanders Part 3 Bart, Lisa, and Milhouse all go to Sunday School (12 hours – keep Ned free as they finish; also keep Comic Book Guy doing any tasks that come up for him as he will need to have them done and be free once the kids have finished attending Sunday School to prompt the Java Server build)
3. Making up for Lost Time Ned goes to Church 3 times in a row (12 hours each time)
4. They Have Internet on Computers Now? Part 1 Comic Book Guy prompts you to build the Java Server ($26,500 and 24 hours – keep Comic Book Guy free as it finishes)
5. They Have Internet on Computers Now? Part 2 Comic Book Guy visits the Java Server (8 hours – keep Homer free as he finishes)
6. Is there an Al Coholic Here Part 1 Homer prompts the building of Moe’s Tavern ($32,000 and 24 hours, unlocking Homer and Midge… er… Marge – keep Homer free as it finishes)

This is followed by the last of the cutscenes (for now, at least) showing Homer and Marge being reunited. Here it is, as uploaded to YouTube by koetje31:

By now, you should well and truly be at level 15 and, if you’re playing the Valentine’s Day quest, able to build Sir Putt-a-lot’s (where Homer and Marge can go for a reunion snuggle).

This is the second part of a series of walkthroughs leading you towards unlocking Moe’s, together with Moe and Marge (level 15). You can read the first part here.

By this stage, you’ll be getting lots of random tasks that are not associated with the main quests. You should do these anyway to allow the task you are looking for to come up.

1. Just Like Mom Used to Make Making Willie have haggis is one of a couple of tasks that are likely to come up while the library is being built (8 hours)
2. Death by Squishee Making Bart and Milhouse shop at the Kwik-E-Mart is another (1 hour)
3. Quicky at the Kwik-E-Mart Making Skinner shop at the Kwik-E-Mart is yet another (1 hour)
4. My Glorious Return! Martin arrives and you’ll be asked to place Snapdragons so that he can carry out his first task, smelling the roses (snapdragons, actually, for 10 minutes – Bart should be free as he finishes)
5. Allies At Last! Pt. 1 Bart and Martin interact so that they can help each other – beginning with Martin riding a bike (8 hours)
6. Allies At Last! Part 2 Martin and Bart both study all night for meaningless test (24 hours – keep Principal Skinner free as they finish)
7. The Dungeon Keeper Part 1 Principal Skinner prompts Bart to go to school, presumably to do his meaningless test (6 hours)
8. Fun At Your Expense Bart and Martin both go and play paintball in the Brown House (2 hours)
9. The Dungeon Keeper Part 2 Bart prompts the building of the Android’s Dungeon ($30,000 and 24 hours, unlocking Comic Book Guy – you may get a Bart and Martin sleepover while it’s being built)
10. The Dungeon Keeper Part 3 Right away, Bart goes to loiter at the Android’s Dungeon (30 minutes – keep Lisa free as he finishes)
11. The New Evergreen Terrace Part 8 Lisa prompts you to build the Orange House ($24,500 and 24 hours – and not at all useful until you have Dr. Hibbert and he uses it to deal organs on the black market; keep Apu free as the build finishes)
12. Long Kwik-E-Shift Make Apu do a Kwik-E-Mart 12-hour shift
13. Nerds ‘R’ Us If you have a Gazebo, you’ll be asked to make Comic Book Guy attend a Mensa meeting (3 hours)
14. Let’s Stay Up All Night Watching TV Bart and Milhouse have a sleepover (24 hours)
15. A Quick Snack Between Snacks Comic Book Guy eats at Gulp ‘n’ Blow (1 hour)
16. An Apu’s Work is Never Done Apu works a 24-hour shift at the Kwik-E-Mart (keep Ned Flanders free as he finishes)
17. I’m a Super Hero Comic Book Guy does some cosplay (12 hours)
18. Passion of the Flanders Part 1 Ned prompts you to build the First Church of Springfield ($32,500 and 24 hours, unlocking Reverend Lovejoy)

To be continued…

Finishing the main Valentine’s quest and building Sir Putt-a-lot’s (before it either disappears forever or becomes a premium item) requires you to be at level 15. Now, having a lot of friends and visiting them all every day will help your XP bar fill up quickly, but you’ll also need to make progress towards that goal through standard gameplay – because to finish the quest you need Marge and Marge come together with Moe and his bar.

In my second game, though, I’m very close. My XP bar is at level 14 (and halfway to level 15), despite just having build Android’s Dungeon (a level 13 building). However, in this series of walkthroughs, I’ll take you all the way up to game level 15. It continues from the Control Building walkthrough, which you can find here.

1. You Didn’t See Anything, Understand? Burns should be free while the Control Building goes up so he can hide nuclear waste if he hasn’t done so already (8 hours – Homer and Burns need to be free as it finishes)
2. It’s Pronounced Nu-cular Part 4 Once the Control Building is in place, Homer goes to work at the Power Plant (16 hours and followed by a cut-scene reminding us that we’re still missing Bart and Marge – Burns should be free as he finishes)

3. Decimation Day! Burns fires a random employee (which only takes him 45 seconds)
4. Another Day, Another Million Dollars Burns runs the Plant (24 hours)
5. A Little Light Reading Burns reads from the Necronomicon (if you want to find out what that is, see here – 4 hours and keep Lisa and Milhouse free as he finishes.
6. Hey Look, It Floats! Homer lounges in the pool (this will probably come up after his power plant shift – don’t worry though, it’s Lisa and Milhouse that initiate the Bart unlock, not Homer)
7. Bart Crusoe Part 1 Because Milhouse either wants to spend time with Lisa or really has an idea where Bart is, Lisa and Milhouse go to school (6 hours each)
8. Bart Crusoe Part 2 Finally, you can build Bart’s Treehouse and unlock Bart ($25,000 – and this builds instantly; it’s followed by another cut-scene of Bart arriving and Homer collecting cash and XP a a result)

9. Bart Crusoe Part 3 Making up for lost time, Bart goes skateboarding (4 hours)
10. Skipping Rocks Still enjoying himself, Bart skips school (8 hours – keep Principal Skinner free as he finishes)
11. A Real Maverick Milhouse tries to fly his scale model perfectly level (while this may not interrupt the progress of the main storyline, don’t leave this out; you may also have a task appear to build a parking meter, so you should do this, too; however, if you’re asked to send Bart and Milhouse on a sleepover, you can probably wait until Principal Skinner initiates the library build)
12. Sanctus Arx Nerdarium In an interaction with Bart and Lisa, Principal Skinner prompts the building of Springfield Library ($20,500 and 24 hours, unlocking Martin – Skinner and Bart will need to be free as it finishes)

To be continued…

Level 24 seems to have caused problems for quite a few people. That’s because it involves lots of characters, any one of whom can get caught up in random tasks that don’t progress the main quest. To help you get all your characters and tasks synchronized, here’s what’s supposed to happen. As you read through, remember my regular advice that all the tasks need to be done in order and that all the buildings before Hibbert’s Family Practice and the Hospital need to have been unlocked before any of this can take place in your game:

1. Hahahahaha Sucker Principal Skinner kicks off this quest as Bart finishes skipping school. Deciding that Bart needs to visit the doctor, he prompts you to build the Hibbert Family Practice ($75,000 and 24 hours, unlocking Dr. Hibbert – keep Bart free as the building finishes)
2. Bart’s Checkup Bart goes for a checkup (10 minutes)
3. General Practice Dr. Hibbert practices medicine (12 hours – keep Grampa Simpson free as he finishes)
4. My Pills! Grampa goes for a checkup (10 minutes – keep Cletus free as he finishes)
5. The Cletus Condition Cletus goes for a checkup (10 minutes – keep Luigi free as he finishes)
6. Luigi’s Growing Problem Luigi goes for a checkup (10 minutes – keep Mayor Quimby free as he finishes)
7. Mayorital Difficulties Mayor Quimby goes for a checkup (10 minutes – keep Burns free as he finishes)
8. Medical Industry Corruption Hearing suggestions that all these problems may arise from nuclear contamination, Burns hides nuclear waste (8 hours – keep Hibbert free as he finishes)
9. Grey Matter Losing business because Burns cancels health insurance for plant employees, Hibbert deals organs on the black market (finally, a use for the Orange House – 4 hours and keep Kent Brockman free when he finishes)
10. Kent Afford It Because only rich guys can afford doctors now, Kent Brockman goes for a checkup (10 minutes – keep Hibbert free as he finishes)
11. Corporate Sponsor Searching for new sources of income, Dr. Hibbert sacrifices his principles in a drug company uniform (6 hours – keep Kent Brockman and Krusty free as he finishes)
12. Show Biz Life The rich guys, Kent Brockman, Dr. Hibbert, and Krusty dine together at the Gilded Truffle (2 hours)
13. Kramp Krusty Krusty promotes a new product (not a random task but part of the storyline – 8 hours and keep Homer, Comic Book Guy and Chief Wiggum free as he finishes)
14. The Flavormax Homer, Chief Wiggum, and Comic Book Guy all go to try the new burger at Krusty Burger (30 minutes each)
15. Business Is Picking Up The new burger causes Dr. Hibbert’s business to pick up – Homer, Chief Wiggum, and Comic Book Guy all need to go for a checkup (10 minutes each – Dr. Hibbert needs to be free as they finish)
16. General Hospital Dr. Hibbert prompts you to build Springfield General Hospital ($91,500 and 24 hours – keep Hibbert free as the building finishes)
17. Operation! Dr. Hibbert performs surgery (24 hours)
18. Such a Beautiful Day Dr. Hibbert does surgery outdoors (1 hour – keep Homer and Burns free as he finishes ready for the next level)

The Chasing Shauna quest involves Shauna, Bart and Milhouse. However, it’s important to know that buying Shauna and starting her quest doesn’t unlock either Bart or Milhouse. Chasing Shauna will only run if you have already unlocked both characters in your main game.

So, even if you’re getting a message to build the van Houten House or Bart’s treehouse as part of Shauna’s quest, neither event will happen unless you’ve completed all the tasks in order in the main game. And that’s because a premium character is designed to add to the game, rather than speed it up. A premium character never unlocks characters or buildings ahead of schedule.

There’s a walkthrough of the Chasing Shauna quest here and a good walkthrough of the entire game in the official game forums here. At least it will let you know how many steps there are between you, Bart, and getting started on Chasing Shauna.

This is a fairly common issue (I went through it too), and it can be quite frustrating. The good news is that there’s nothing wrong with your game – it’s just how it works for frequent players. So, in this post, I’ll give you some background on the inner workings of the game, and a walkthrough of what happens between building Krabappel’s Apartment and the next building, Channel 6.

If you play a lot and visit all your friends every day, your XP builds up very fast – and that can mean that your game level can rise faster than your task level. The problem is that most of the buildings only unlock when the whole series of tasks before them has been completed. For example, Channel 6 won’t unlock until the entire Edna storyline is complete.

So, that means that while your XP might tell you you’re level 25, your real game level is level 22. To unlock those shaded buildings, then, you just have to do what you’ve been doing throughout the game – complete all the tasks in order.

At level 22, however, the tasks can feel like they go on forever – and this walkthrough shows you why. But first, to start off the level, Principal Skinner interacts with Willie to build the Krabappel Apartments after Bart and Lisa have finsihed after being sent to school. The Apartment will cost you $70,000 and will take 24 hours to build, unlocking Edna.

1. Once you’ve built her apartment, Edna teaches school (8 hours)
2. When she’s finished that, she teaches school, again (8 hours – keep Skinner free as she finishes)
3. Edna hosts detention (12 hours) while Skinner goes bird watching (24 hours – keep Edna free as he finishes)
4. Edna relaxes in the teachers’ lounge (1 hour – keep Ned free as she finishes)
5. Edna and Ned dine at Gilded Truffle (2 hours each – they don’t need to do this at the same time, but it’s nice if they do)
6. Edna takes a smoke break (10 minutes – keep Bart free as she finishes)
7. Bart skips school (8 hours – keep Edna free as he finishes)
8. As a result, Bart has to serve detention (6 hours) while Edna hosts detention (12 hours – keep both Bart and Lisa free as she finishes)
9. Edna goes on strike (24 hours) while Bart skateboards (4 hours) and Lisa does next week’s homework (24 hours – keep Bart and Marge free as Lisa and Edna finish)
10. Marge sends Bart and Lisa to Sunday School (12 hours each – keep Milhouse free as both Bart and Lisa finish)
11. Bart, Lisa, and Milhouse go to Sunday School (this is the second time for Bart and Lisa – 12 hours each)
12: Bart, Milhouse, and Martin have a sleep over in Bart’s Treehouse (24 hours each)
13. Bart, Milhouse, and Martin go to Library (24 hours each)
14: Bart breaks into the school’s CPU while Milhouse pulls the fire alarm (10 mins each – keep Chief Wiggum free as they finish)
15: Milhouse has to clean the school (he has to do this twice at 12 hours each – keep Edna free as he finishes for the second time)
16: Edna goes back and teaches class (8 hours – keep Mayor Quimby free as Edna finishes as he prompts the start if the next level)

So, there’s a lot to do at this level and many of the tasks are very long – which is why there can be a very long gap between building Krabappel’s Apartment and finally getting to Kent Brockman and Channel 6.

I’ve written a lot of posts over the past week on the Valentine’s Day update. With three weeks still to go, they risk getting pushed off the front page, making them harder for new players to find.

So, I’ve added a new page to the blog, linking the key posts. I’ll be working on it a bit over the next day or so, but even as it is, it’s a good place to start looking for the answers to all your Valentine’s Day questions.

You can access it through the menu bar at the top of the page, or go direct to: http://tstotips.com/valentines-day-update-faq/

Here’s how a couple of people have described the problem on EA Answers at http://answers.ea.com/t5/The-Simpsons-Tapped-Out/Simpsons-Tapped-out-Illegitimate-Concern-Part-2/td-p/108712 :

“I have a problem with the quest Illegitimate Concern Part 2. I completed the task for Krabappel hosting detention but Bart’s task serve detention is not available in Barts list of available tasks. I cannot complete this quest without it. Any ideas? I tried reinstalling the app, closed the game using the multitask bar, sold and rebuilt the school but so far no joy. Has anyone else had a similar problem?”

“I’ve had the same issue. Krabappel is done with her task but Bart can’t start serving detention because it’s not in his task menu. I’ve inventoried my entire Springfield, deleted the game, reinstalled, sold and bought back the school, treehouse, and Krabappel’s apartments, and completed every task within Bart’s task menu but still nothing has worked. I’ve also emailed EA several times but they haven’t provided any useful information. This is extermely frustrating because this has stalled my progression through the entire game. If anyone has some input I would love to hear it.”

The task was generated by Edna Krabappel, who also monitored detention at the same time (bizarrely, Bart’s detention was for 6 hours, and Edna monitored it for 12). When Bart and Edna both finished, it should have disappeared from Bart’s list of tasks as it’s not one of his regular tasks (his regular 6 hour task is “go to school”).

So, if Edna’s task is no longer in the task bar, and you can’t use it to start Bart, try this – the very next task is for Edna to go on strike. Put the school and her apartment into storage to finish the task she’s on, take them out again, give it a few minutes to see whether any exclamation marks come up, then send her on strike and see what happens.

Anyone having this problem, let me know through here how it goes.
