The Ferris Wheel arrived with the Squidport update, and can only be placed on the Boardwalk. It costs 120 donuts and unlocks once you’ve completed Squidport Pt. 6. But is it a good use of your donuts? The short answer is that it’s probably the best buy of all the new premium items. Read on to see why…

image
Here’s some reasons why you should spend your donuts on this, rather than on rushing your Boardwalk section production:

1. It’s only a 6-second build, giving a bit more life to your Boardwalk quite quickly.
2. It unlocks a new 10-hour task for Mr. Burns (although the task only unlocks if Smithers is free at the same time – he needs to come too), making it the only Boardwalk item that any of your characters interacts with on an ongoing basis. The task earns $525 and 135XP, more than his 12 hour task and almost as much as his 24-hour task.
3. While there’s no task for Smithers, and he’s just along for the ride, he earns the same amount as Burns – so you earn a total of $1050 and 270XP for this 10-hour task.
4. It earns you $260 and 26XP every 10 hours – not a large amount, but every little bit helps in building up the cash you need to expand your Squidport.
5. The extra earnings, and the extra task make it a far better buy than other similarly priced premium items (Mount Carlmore, I’m looking at you).
6. It contributes 10 points to your Consumerism rating.
7. It’s animated and turns all the time, whether Burns and Smithers are using it or not.
8. It helps Mr. Burns get in touch with his inner child… and helps Smithers get in touch with Mr. Burns.

And here are a few reasons why you may want to look elsewhere, or hold off buying it for a while:

1. It takes up squares, and if you’re in the early stages of building your Boardwalk, space is tight.
2. Like all the Squidport buildings, it can only be placed on the Boardwalk, limiting your placement options.
3. You can’t actually see Burns and Smithers use it. It acts like a building and they just disappear inside.
4. Apart from Burns and Smithers, no other characters use it.

Just for completeness, here’s what happens when you build the Ferris Wheel:

image
Smithers: Would you like to take a ride, sir?
Burns: I’d like to, but I lack sufficient body weight to keep from being gusted away at the top. Perhaps if you rode with me and held me.
Smithers: I… I… I… *thump
When Smithers regains consciousness (don’t worry, it’s right away), you can send them to the Squidport for a ride.

image
So, if you buy premium items, this is one that I’d recommend. But it would be really nice if the other buildings also unlocked regular tasks as well, if only to keep Squidport busy.

The last part of this walkthrough is right below this one, but here’s the link anyway. When we left off, Bart was busily disturbing everyone in the Brown house by setting off the flares he’d bought at Malaria Zone. Now, it’s back to the Sea Captain. (T’s note: This may all kick off while Bart is setting off flares in the Brown House, or it might start once he has finished – it’s probably best to keep the Sea Captain free after Bart has finished shopping at the Malaria Zone.)

1. Squidport Part 8: On surveying the handiwork of his men, the Sea Captain finds that he is not yet satisfied with their progress. He turns to Ned (who doesn’t need to be free) for advice…

image
Ned Flanders: Mr. Captain, sir? If I could offer a suggestion… a spruce or two could really, well, spruce things up!
Sea Captain: That’s it exactly, matey! You gay men always have the best design advice.
Ned Flanders: Oh, I’m not homosexual.
Sea Captain: Neither am I, wink-wink! Now, let’s get decorating, girlfriend!
For this task, you need to buy and place 1 Boardwalk Lamp Post, 3 Boardwalk Trees, and 5 Boardwalk Fences. They’re all available in your Decorations menu. The next task has a conversation between the Sea Captain and Lisa, but only the Sea Captain needs to be free.

image
image
2. The Old Man and the Sea Part 3: Too much work in the hot summer sun could be the reason for the Sea Captain starting to make less and less sense – or there could be other reasons…

image
Sea Captain: Because… un, at three bells as the crow flies…er… sextant…
Lisa: Is everything okay, Sea Captain?
Sea Captain: I’ve been running out of nautical jargon to pepper me conversation with. Which is hard because, ye know, it’s my thing.
Lisa: You could pick up jargon from classic tales of the sea like “Treasure Island” or “Moby Dick”.
Sea Captain: Brilliant! You’re like one of them, ye know, light… buildings that shine for boats and stuff when the weather is… not good… Ya’rr. I’d best get to readin’.
And that what he does – off he goes to the Library to spend the next 24 hours reading nautical literature. There’s another conversation with Lisa in the next task but, once again, she doesn’t need to be free.

3. Squidport Part 9: With his pirate language reinvigorated by his study of nautical literature, the Sea Captain is ready to continue rebuilding the Squidport…

image
Sea Captain: Maybe a cultural imports store.
Lisa: It’s so wonderful that you want to expose people to the crafts and cultures of distant peoples!
Sea Captain: N’arr, I jest want to fleece tourists the way the locals fleeced me everywhere I went. Maybe unload som tribal gee-gaws I got conned inta buying.
It’s time to build Just Rainsticks, which is now available for $52000 in your Buildings menu. It’s a 24-hour build, as usual, and you need to have at least 12 Boardwalk sections to fit it in. Keep Lisa free when the build finishes.

image
image
4. Just Rainsticks: It’s Lisa’s turn to get excited…

image
Bart: Lis, even you have to see those things are beyond lame. It’s a giant, slow rattle.
Lisa: Rainsticks were invented by the Aztecs who believed that by recreating the sound of rain, they could call forth rainstorms to water their crops. (T’s note: You can read about them and see what they look like here: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Rainstick)
Bart: Well, they should have invented a stick that recreated the sound of them not being conquered by the Spanish.
Lisa: Wow. That was actually historically accurate.
Bart: I perk up in class when there’s ass-whoopings.
And off Lisa goes to Just Rainsticks to spend 4 hours browsing for (surprise, surprise) rainsticks.

image
The walkthrough will continue.

By now, many people players have built the Itchy and Scratchy Store and got over the glitch that seems to bring the quests to a halt (just put the store in your Inventory and replace it). If you haven’t, though, go and take a look at the previous post, which you can find here. It’s worth noting that if you’ve rushed ahead and used donuts to build all your Boardwalk, the next part of the quest doesn’t seem to run as it should, and you may find yourself jumping ahead. For everyone else, the Sea Captain needs to be free to keep things moving along.

1. Squidport Part 6: It’s time for the Sea Captain to critique your work so far…

image
Homer: How do we do that? I mean, I know… but explain it slowly for people who aren’t as smart as me.
Sea Captain: Head ye over to the Squidport Entrance and then, er… I don’t know just build it. And ye can always speed the work along with donuts!
Homer: What a surprise.
So, head on over to the Squidport Entrance and tap on it. Make a couple more Boardwalk sections if you haven’t already. You only need to have a total of 8 pieces to start the next task, but you only need to build 1 to complete this task. If you already have 5 pieces in total, the “Goal Complete!” notice should pop up without you having to do anything more.

2. Squidport Part 7: The Sea Captain has a question for Lisa (who doesn’t need to be free)…

image
Lisa: Are you going out to sea again?
Sea Captain: Nay, I’m going to an Adele concert and wanted to unfurl a sign that says I heart her. I’ve got bad seats so it has to be a big one.
Lisa: Well, the boardwalk used to have a place that sold camping supplies.
Sea Captain: And it shall again. Fall on, men – the cheap seats await!
By this stage, you need to have 8 Boardwalk sections so that you can build the Malaria Zone, which is now unlocked in your Buildings menu and available for $47500. It’s a 24 hour build, and Bart needs to be free when you finish.

image
image

3. A Flair for Exploration Part 1: Bart is even more excited than he was at the arrival of the Itchy and Scratchy Store…
Bart: What kind of store is this? Thermal underwear, waterproof matches, flares… Oh my God! This stuff is awesome! Fires starter, extra long forks, something that turns pee into drinking water? Why haven’t I always been shopping here?!
And off he goes to spend 4 hours buying flares.

4. A Flair for Exploration Part 2: And that gives a new “Brown house” idea…

image
And for the next 12 hours, he sets off flares in the Brown House – no doubt disturbing Otto, Kearney, Shauna and a host of others in their slightly shady Brown house activities. Keep the Sea Captain free, as Squidport Part 8 could well begin while Bart is in the Brown House.

The walkthrough will continue…

Just came into a situation where I was able to find out EXACTLY what pieces of the Boardwalk cost and how long they take to build all the way up to the last piece. many people are complaining that EA made the construction of the Squidport a hugely expensive and lengthy event and after seeing this I would totally have to agree. According to my calculations, and I will be adding the table below, it will take 357 days and 19 hours to complete all 146 pieces of the Boardwalk (the first 4 tiles are free). Even if you use donuts to speed up the tasks it will cost you 4314 of them. I know, I know calm down. That is an insane amount of time however you do NOT need all of the Boardwalk pieces to complete the entire Squidport story line. How long that takes will have to be another post but it is not necessary to acquire 150 Boardwalk pieces to get all of the new items and buildings. So we don’t know if EA meant it to be this way or if the glitch in the Squidport entrance, where tapping on it in a friends town actually causes them to lose their piece, has anything to do with it. Maybe new updates will change the current numbers but for now here are the prices and build times.

images

Boardwalk Tile Cost Menu

1-4  Free instant builds

Tile 5 – $250/60 minutes or 2 donuts to rush

Tile 6 – $450/2 hours or 2 donuts

Tile 7 – $850/4 hours or 2 donuts

Tile 8 – $1,700/8 hours or 4 donuts

Tile 9 – $2,500/12 hours or 6 donuts

Tile 10 – $3,350/16 hours or 8 donuts

Tiles 11-15 – $5,000/24 hours or 12 donuts

Tiles 16-30 – $7,500/1 day 12 hours or 18 donuts

Tiles 31-60 – $10,000/2 days or 24 donuts

Tiles 61-90 – $12,500/2 days 12 hours or 30 donuts

Tiles 91-120 – $15,000/ 3 days or 36 donuts

Tiles 121-150 – $17,500/ 3 days 12 hours or 42 donuts

My advice is “Don’t panic”, take your game 1 tile at a time and get through all of the quest lines. Do NOT worry about getting a 150 tiles. Once you complete the Squidport tasks in full then, unless an update comes through and changes these numbers, work on your tiles. Happy Tapping!

UPDATE:  This post is just a reference tool not meant to upset anyone. It is a land expansion and not an event. If you recall, the normal Springfield land squares are quite vast as well and people that have been playing for months still aren’t even close to acquiring all of them yet none of their game play or level progression has been affected. Even without all of the regular land you still advance to new levels and are able to participate in limited time events. The boardwalk is no different. I’m just a geek who likes to figure things out whether they’re needed or not.

Screenshot_2013-06-13-00-01-46-1

I’m hoping I’m not stepping on Mr.T’s toes at all with this post but I currently have the time to do it and get it out for all of you. With the update a number of decorations came with it and the big question people are asking is “Are they worth buying?”

My personal answer to that is YES but with the costs of just getting the Boardwalk built maybe right now isn’t the best time. As T stated in an earlier post the performers are basically just costs to you. Yes they are really quite cool looking and they add to the Boardwalk/Seaside atmosphere but other than that they do nothing. The decorations however do improve various ratings to your game.  Once you’ve reached the point to unlock them they will always be available.

Here is a breakdown of which one does what:

To acquire these first set of decorations you must be at Level 15 in the game and complete the Squidport Pt. 5 quest.

First and foremost the Squidport Entrance is vital if you plan to even start the entire quest. And buying it you can earn money and XP by setting jobs.

In the last part of the walkthrough, which you can read here, we left Homer swearing at the ocean for 12 hours, quite possibly in another dimension. When he’s finished, he miraculously reappears in front of the Entrance to begin the handover to the Sea Captain, who’ll be your guide for much of the remainder of the Squidport storyline.

1. The Old Man and the Sea Part 1: Homer steps out of his Squidport Entrance netherworld and notices something unusual in the distance:

image
Homer: No, it’s real! It’s some kind of house/boat hybrid! Hmmm, I wonder what you call that?
Um… a houseboat? And it comes with the Sea Captain for only $15000. It’s in your decorations menu rather than your build menu because there’s absolutely no wait time for it to build once you place it on your newly purchased water expansion. That means you unlock the Sea Captain (Horatio to his friends) right away.

image
2. The Old Man and the Sea Part 2: Make sure that you read the Sea Captain’s script in appropriately pirate-y language…
and possibly Homer’s as well. Get ready to welcome to Springfield a man who could seriously challenge Grampa in the rambling story-telling stakes:

image
Sea Captain: Y’arr, who be doing all that squalling and cussing at the sea? Ye made me sailors blush. Seriously, some of them cried.
Homer: Sorry, sometimes I have a potty mouth. Anyhoo, who the F@#& are you?
Sea Captain: Captain McCallister. Just let in from a long haul at sea. Been at Madagascar and Malabar and spent half a hundred days floating ’round the giant garrrbage patch in the Pacific. Y’arr, that last one tweren’t intentional. But sit ye down and have a yarn with the Captain. I’ll tell of a ship that near went under, her belly laden with counterfeit Kindle Fires.
Homer: Eh, I’m really not much for listening to people.
Sea Captain: Did I mention there’s be rum by the bucketfull?
Homer: Yarn away! Don’t leave anything out!
And so, the Sea Captain spends the next 4 hours telling tall tales. You don’t need to keep Homer free for this. Let him slip away and earn money for you – you’re going to need it.

image
3. Squidport Part 5: Finished with his tall tales, the Sea captain surveys what Homer has done with the Squidport so far…
Sea Captain: Ya’rr, the Squidport! This old seadog has spent many a silver here, having me caricature made and eating Dipping Dots. Tho something’s different now, can’t lay a finger to it. Wait, I have it – it’s become totally lame.
Homer: I know, right? You can’t buy a fried anything or squoosh a penny into a worthless flat oval.
Sea Captain: Me men’ll get this place into ship-shape. The finest builders what sailed the seas!
Lisa: It makes sense that sailors would know carpentry. They have to constantly repair the ship.
Sea Captain: Aye. We’ll start by building a logo store to increase footfalls and up the spill-over effect.
Lisa: Okay, now it’s making less sense.
Sea Captain: Sailors must also be well-versed in mall-science and neuromarketing.
And now it’s time to build you first Squidport shop – the Itchy and Scratchy Store. It becomes available at this point in your Building menu for $32000 and takes 24 hours to build. This can only go on the Boardwalk, and if you try to put it anywhere else, “the pirate guy will get mad”. Keep Bart and Milhouse free as the build finishes.

image
(T’s note: As you wait, resist the temptation to build too much Boardwalk – getting to far ahead on your Boardwalk progression seems to have a negative impact on the progression of the quest. There’s another glitch, too – the Store builds, but in some cases doesn’t clear from your task book. This is an easy glitch to fix, though, as putting the Store into your Inventory and taking it out again seems to get things moving.)

4. They Fight and Buy-It: Bart’s excited…

image
Milhouse: Yes! Luckily I went to the ER three times last month, so I’m flush with cash.
And off they go to spend four hours browsing the Itchy and Scratchy Store together. Unfortunately, it’s not all that they were hoping for:

image
Bart: This Itchy and Scratchy ball bounces funny and makes my eyes water when I smell it. Also, it’s stamped with the words “Warning: Not a Toy!”
Milhouse: I just found money in my other pocket.
Bart: What are we waiting for? Let’s buy more crap!

But that’s nothing for you to worry about – instead you can explore all the premium and non-premium items that unlocked with the completion of the Itchy and Scratchy Store. It’s over to the Sea Captain next to move the Squidport rebuild along.

The walkthrough will continue…

Important note: Don’t start building the Boarwalk until Homer has taken you through the tutorial. Doing so can completely halt your progress.

For players at the top level of the game, Squidport is a welcome addition – and for players at lower levels, it’s probably just more to save up for and spend your game dollars on. For those of you just starting out in the game, the Squidport build kicks off at game level 15 (not XP level 15), once you’ve completed all the tasks that follow the Moe’s Tavern build. By the time you get to building Springfield Downs, you should be able to get underway – although buying that water expansion may be a bit of an obstacle, as it is in my B game.

Just a note: it’s a permanent addition to the game (by all indications). And it takes a while to construct – by some estimates, there’s a year’s play at least if you don’t use donuts to speed anything up. While that should mean that there’s no particular hurry for the walkthrough, I’m going to start building it up piece by piece. Homer needs to be free to kick things off…

image
1. Squidport Part 1: Lisa’s finding her dad a little confusing:
Homer: D’oh!
Lisa: What’s wrong, Dad?
Homer: Oh, that wasn’t an annoyed “d’oh” – I was thinking about “dough”. Like the delicious fried dough they used to sell down at the waterfront. Get in the car, kids! We’re going to the Squidport!
Lisa: Dad, remember? You blew up the town. There is no Squidport.
Homer: D’oh! That one was an annoyed d’oh.
Lisa: I suppose we could rebuild the Squidport. It’s be nice to see our town finally stretch down to the water. (T’s note: It’s almost like she’s been reading the comments on this blog!)
Homer: Get in the car, kids! We’re going to rebuild the Squidport!
Lisa: Nobody “gets in cars” anymore. We all just walk aimlessly on the streets.
Homer: D’oh!
Lisa: Which kind was that?
Homer: Little of both.
Next, you need to buy a beach expansion and a water expansion. The lowest prices of these will cost you $19,000 and $33,000 respectively. But once you’ve done that, you’ll have completed Squidport Part 1.

image
2. Squidport Part 2: Homer surveys his new domain:
Homer: Okay, water expansion bought! …and it was surprisingly easy considering it’s prime oceanfront property and all my money is fake.
Lisa: Great! Now we can build the Squidport Entrance.
Homer: You know what they say: “Every great building begins with the door!”
Lisa: Who says that?
Homer: I dunno. Building builders, I assume.
Your second Squidport task is to place the Squidport Entrance. You’ll find this in your decorations menu for $4500. It builds instantly – and you get a reward of $100 and 10XP when it’s placed. (T’s note: While the Squidport Entrance contains Boardwalk sections, you won’t be able to build or place anything on the 5 Boardwalk sections that make up the Entrance.)

image
3. Squidport Part 3: Homer is dreaming of that fried dough stand. He doesn’t know it yet, but it’s going to take a while to get to it…
Homer: Mmm, fried dough. A plate-sized glob of wet flour, deep fried and covered with whipped cream… Ow! Chest pains! I need to exercise. By walking a short distance along the boardwalk to get to the Fried Dough Stand.
But first he needs some Boardwalk to walk a short distance along. And this is where the game switches to tutorial mode for the first time since the early stages of the game, showing you how to place the 4 Boardwalk sections that came with the Squidport Entrance – and lulling you into a false sense of it always being this easy as you place them.

image
4. Squidport Part 4: Homer steps back once again to admire his work…
Homer: Ah, the Squidport! Full of charming junkies and colorful runaways, attracted by the smell of carnival food and shady merchants… Wait a minute! My Squidport doesn’t have any of that!
Lisa: Dad? Is something wrong?
Homer: No, sweetie. Daddy just has to have a talk with his real estate partners. STUPID WATERFRONT! EMBARRASS ME IN FRONT OF JUNKIES AND RUNAWAYS!
And Homer continues to spend the next 12 hours swearing at the ocean. As he does, the Squidport Entrance seems to have either like a building or a portal to another dimension, as he disappear completely, only reappearing when his swearing at the ocean is done.

image
The walkthrough will continue…

The Squidport potentially adds a lot more “land” to your your Springfield – 3×13 squares to be exact. And I use the term “land” very loosely, because only 13 of those squares are on dry land – the rest is on the sea.

Here’s what each of the new blocks of “land” costs:

[ $39,000 ] [ $35,000 ] [ $33,000 ]
[ $35,000 ] [ $33,000 ] [ $19,000 ]
[ $35,000 ] [ $33,000 ] [ $19,000 ]
[ $39,000 ] [ $35,000 ] [ $19,000 ]
[ $44,000 ] [ $39,000 ] [ $33,000 ]
[ $50,000 ] [ $44,000 ] [ $35,000 ]
[ $56,000 ] [ $50,000 ] [ $39,000 ]
[ $62,000 ] [ $56,000 ] [ $44,000 ]
[ $69,000 ] [ $62,000 ] [ $50,000 ]
[ $77,000 ] [ $69,000 ] [ $56,000 ]
[ $86,000 ] [ $77,000 ] [ $62,000 ]
[ $95,000 ] [ $86,000 ] [ $69,000 ]
[$104,000 ] [ $95,000 ] [ $77,000 ]

It’s important to remember, though, that you won’t be able to use all of the sea “land” – and that’s because your Squidport seems to be limited to 150 Boardwalk sections.

In the last 24 hours, the site passed the 10,000,000 hit milestone, and just coming back after a week off I almost missed it. Thanks to everyone who checks in regularly (and thanks to some new stats I can see just how regularly that is!). I truly appreciate your support. My apologies as well, for being a little slow in responsing to comments – there are only 400 to go now!

If you like what you see and would like to make a contribution to the upkeep and maintenance of the site, you can do this in a couple of ways. The first is through Amazon (and my apologies to anyone who can’t use the USA or the UK store):

The US store:

The UK store:

Or you can use Paypal:

If you would like to make a US$2.00 contribution, you can use this button:

And if you would like to make a US$5.00 contribution, you can use this button:

And because I’ve been asked to include it, this is the US$10.00 button:

It’s worth pointing out for those who believe I might be rolling in cash from contributions and considering an early retirement, that these posts generally raise much less than the server costs for a month. And please remember that it’s all entirely optional – all updates are free to absolutely everyone and that’s the way it will always be!

The big surprise for the Squidport expansion was just how long it takes to build a Boardwalk section. I suppose part of the reason is that we’re all used to events, where the goal is to get everything within a limited time.

This is different, though. Squidport has been designed to lock into the game from level 15 and to take a really long time to build. This is not necessarily a bad thing, although it’s understandably frustrating for players that haven’t had to think about looking months ahead to complete any part of the game since their early days playing it. Ah, I remember those days…

The Boardwalk section-making process is the main way that’s done. Edd, in a comment, has given us a list of how long each section takes:

Boardwalk Tile Time
1-4 = automatic
5 = 1h
6 = 2h
7 = 4h
8 = 8h
9 = 12h
10 = 16h
11-15 = 24h
16-30 = 36h
31-60 = 48h
61-90 = 60h
91-120 = 72h
121-150 = 84h
Max is 150 Tiles

Thanks Edd – and I’ll update this post with prices a little later in the weekend.

P.S.: And because it takes so long, please don’t tap on the Squidport Entrance when visiting a friends’ town. The glitch at work may mean they’ll have to start all over again.

image

The Squidport quest has a couple of points where progress seems to stall. At Squidport Part 5, there’s a glitch where the Itchy and Scratchy Store builds, but the task doesn’t clear – the solution for this is to simply store the Store in your Inventory and then replace it. But the next point of delay seems to be right after that at Squidport Part 6.

The Sea Captain is the key character for this, as he is for most of the Squidport build. But before you can get the prompt to build the Malaria Zone, you need to have enough Boardwalk – and you’ll need to make sure you have 8 pieces at least. So, unless you have enough, the next part of the quest may not begin.

There’s a full walkthrough coming soon! In the meantime, though, DON’T TAP ON THE SQUIDPORT ENTRANCE WHEN YOU VISIT A FRIEND’S TOWN! There’s a glitch with this that EA still needs to fix – and, for the moment, it doesn’t help you and it potentially hurts your friend.

image

With Squidport now a permanent expansion, some of you may be wondering if the regular decorations can be used on the Boardwalk and if the new Boardwalk decorations can be used anywhere in our Springfield’s. The answer to that is yes and no. Some do, some don’t and I have created a list of the entire collection of decorations and where they can go. There’s also a strip of sand that’s about 3 squares wide that can be decorated with some items as well. I’m going to break them down for you as to whether they can go on the 1. Grass or Mainland, 2. Sand or 3. Boardwalk. And before anyone asks about a regular buildings post I will tell you now that NO regular buildings and/or houses can be placed on the Boardwalk. maybe EA will change that because a lot of you will find that once all of the Squidport quests are done and you have the max amount of tiles, there’s still a LOT of room for well, for anything.

Image-1603142955
First thing I want to note is the section containing the Squidport entrance, which is the first piece you build, is absolutely off limits to any development. The entire area in green cannot be decorated.

Screenshot_2013-06-14-08-32-55
Since this is my first time using the Word Press software I had to create a Google Doc for the complete list. I tried to make a table on the page itself but was unable. So for the full list click here

Screenshot_2013-06-14-08-34-17
As you can see the possibilities are so diverse I thought this would be the best way to display it. Looking at the results I believe that they are in fact 3 different sections as some decorations will not go on the beach but will go on the grass. There are some head-scratchers as well, for instance, swings can go on the Boardwalk while see-saws cannot. So I guess there will be no seaside playgrounds. I hope I have been able to assist some of you in making your Squidport look wonderful. I apologize in taking too long to get this out and hope I was able to assist some of you. See you on the next post, Happy Tapping!

UPDATE: Thanks to Dan Jones for pointing out I left off all of the limited time/seasonal decorations I have updated the document to reflect all of them. Unfortunately it doesn’t reveal any better results to using any of them on the Boardwalk with the exception of ALL of the recently released Season 24 Junk items and the lone Love Planter from the Valentine’s Event. Thanks Dan for your help.

For everyone still waiting for the Itchy and Scratchy Store build to finish, here’s what the new decorations will cost:

image
image
image
The Bench, Lamp Post and Fence all help your Vanity rating; the Tree helps your Tree-hugging rating; and the Lemonade Stand and the Coffee Kart will give your Gluttony rating a much-needed boost.

All of these should unlock after you’ve completed Squidport Part 5, with the exception of the Fried Dough Stand, which doesn’t unlock until Squidport Part 12 (so I don’t have a confirmed price on that yet). There’s also a Boardwalk Fountain that sells for 75 donuts and makes a great addition to your Squidport.

The Bench, Lamp Post, Tree, and Fence can be placed in your Springfield as well as on your Boardwalk. The other decorations are, sadly, Squidport only – or the Sea Captain will get mad!

There’s no social element to the Squidport “event” simply because it’s an expansion to the game rather than an event.

New players will be able to construct their Boardwalk from level 15 – and that’s game level 15. That means you’ll really only be able to begin building Squidport once you’ve completed Moe’s Tavern and are on the way to Springfield Downs. Squidport has been designed to be a permanent addition to the game, and that means it’s been designed to take time – lots of time – to build, in the same way that it takes months to build your main Springfield. Really, it’s an answer to the players’ requests for more land, land that runs down to the sea, and a greater variety of buildings. And it follows the pattern that we’ve seen since September last year where a social event like Whacking Day is followed by something that isn’t.

So, for players new to the game, don’t worry. A social event will be along soon enough (although I suspect that Krustyland will be an expansion as well). And, after all, an expansion like this one, together with the tweaks EA are making to the game, says a lot about how the developers are thinking of its longevity.

The Boardwalk Performers unlock as soon as you complete the build of the Itchy and Scratchy Store. The Human Statue costs $10,000 but all the rest go for donuts:

And the answer to the question of what they do is really quite easy – apart from making your Squidport look busy, not much at all. The Boardwalk Performers (and that includes Handsome Pete, even though he’s part of the Oddballs set), just roam around your Boardwalk… performing. They have no quests or tasks and they don’t enter the main part of your Springfield. They’re a bit like the special the Animals and Pets and the Funzos – decorations in character form.

Completists will probably want them, but while your Squidport is under construction, I wouldn’t be in too much of a hurry to spend your donuts on them. The Performers will certainly help make it all look busier later on – but while your Squidport only consists of a few Boardwalk sections, saving your donuts for other items may be a wiser move. And you can always see how you feel about them by buying the Human Statue for game dollars – and, really, one performer for a short Boardwalk is probably all you need to start with.

P.S.: Not sure what happened to the Jackson 5 – I’ll check out the files on the weekend.

I received an email from Vampryss today raising a good point which has been discussed before, but not really solved.

I have noticed in my 100 friends, that some do not appear to be active anymore. I do not mind, they still give me my XP/cash, however I would like to clear those not playing now and make room for active players (I like to see how people do their towns) Perhaps some people that have multiple accounts have forgotten one of them :S. This way, if they have, maybe it will remind them and they can respond as to whether they will be using it anymore.

His suggested solution was to do a post asking for people to comment any of their Origin account names with friends, so that if readers have any of those people as friends they can remove them to make way for new friends who are still playing.

So, below, please only post the names of abandoned accounts – this is not a general “add friends” section. This is only a trial run to see how it goes, but hopefully it will be effective in unfriending inactive players.

As many of you have noticed, there are a few tweaks and changes to the game that came with the Squidport update:

1. Other Springfield has been updated to level 30 – strangely, though, it has the beach but no Squidport.

2. The odds, outlays, rewards and race timings have changed at Springfield Downs – more to come on this.

3. Fences and certain other decorations can now be rotated in 4 directions.

4. The regular Lamp Posts are no longer available.

5. The glitch affecting the dual character tasks and the Rich Texan and his mechanical bull seems to have been repaired.

6. While the building and decoration limit doesn’t seem to be back, there is a 4500 building and decoration warning.

Is there anything else I missed?

P.S.: comment responses are still going to take a bit of time (only 700 to go) so please be patient if your comment seems to be in moderation for a while.

It looks like you probably shouldn’t. Although some people have been reporting Boardwalk sections replaced by a handshake over their Squidport arch, some XP and no sections in sight as a result of a visit by a friendly neighbor, for others it’s business as usual – no handshake and a floating piece of Boardwalk. And that kind of inconsistency means that if you’re visiting a neighbor’s town, it’s probably a good idea to keep your tapping finger keep well away from their Entrance.

I tested this out by visiting my A game from my B game, tapping on both the Springfield Entrance and the Houseboat.

image
I checked my inventory and the build menu and although I collected some cash and XP, I didn’t collect a Boardwalk section (I haven’t discounted that this may be because my B game doesn’t have the Squidport Entrance yet – I’ll check again when it does).

image
I then went back to my A game. As you can see, my Entrance still has a floating Boardwalk tile above it, while my Houseboat has the handshake. Interestingly, the tap didn’t seem to help at all – the Boardwalk section-making process didn’t begin again.

image
It looks like the “disappearing Boardwalk section” is one of those irregular glitches that appear in the game. And as you’re unlikely to know which of your friends is affected, the best thing to do is to avoid tapping on the Squidport Entrance when you visit any of your friends’ towns. It doesn’t help you or your friend at all and your tap may well even hurt your friend’s progress.

If you’re hurrying up the game just to unlock Planet Hype and get Rainier Wolfcastle, my advice would be to slow down.

Wolfcastle isn’t part of the Squidport expansion – it looks very much like he’ll be part of level 31 (barring accidents or changes of plans). Current indications are that he’ll come with Wolfcastle Mansion – and I’m already planning my own Springfield version of Malibu to fit it in. For those at level 30, I’d expect level 31 to be at least a couple of weeks away, although EA have been catching us a little off-guard at the moment, so your guess for a release date is probably as good as mine.

And for those speeding through the Squidport build with donuts, remember that this is going to be around for a while. It’s an expansion rather than an event, and there’s really no hurry. Feel free to take your time and build the best Boardwalk you can. That’s half the fun at least.

Well, it’s easy and it’s not…

When you build the Squidport Entrance, you get a starter set of 4 Boardwalk sections. But after that, as you can only make one section at a time, it’s all about game dollars, patience, and resisting the temptation to spend donuts on hurrying the whole process up.

To make Boardwalk sections, you just tap on the Squidport Entrance. The first extra piece may be free (I was reasonably excited and in a bit of a hurry, so I didn’t check or take a screenshot).

image
However, it does take 1 hour to make, and you know it’s ready when a Boardwalk section floats over the Squidport Entrance sign.

image
The second piece, however, costs $450 and takes 2 hours. I expect that even more time and money will be required for the third extra piece.

image
You place Boardwalk sections from the build menu, which tells you how many pieces you currently have.

Happy Boardwalk building.
