The Open Air Stage is available as part of the level 29 update and is now officially one of my favorite buildings!

image
It works just like Channel 6 and Cletus’ Farm – you spend money to make money. But what makes it better than either of these two buildings is that it also gives some of your characters something extra to do.

To unlock a performance, a required character just needs to be free and in his/her regular costume. How much you need to invest depends on both the length of the task and the number of characters involved. Your return depends on the number of characters involved and whether the task is performed in whole or part by a premium character. Here’s a handy chart:

Task Time Character(s) Investment Reward
Lisa’s Sax Solo 60 minutes Lisa $25 $145/30XP
Krusty Standup 2 hours Krusty $40 $240/45XP
The Be Sharps 3 hours Homer / Skinner / Apu / Barney $175 $1055/245XP
Willie on the Pipes 4 hours Willie $60 $350/80XP
The Skinner Sisters 10 hours Principal Skinner / Agnes Skinner $230 $1385/300XP
Sideshow Opera 16 hours Sideshow Mel $165 $990/220XP
Man Being Hit By Football: The Musical 24 hours Moleman $220 $1320/250XP

Lisa’s, Willie’s and Moleman’s performances are pretty much what you see in their regular tasks. But, here are the others (you’ll have to forgive my undecorated park – that will come soon). First, Krusty and his standup:

image
Here’s Sideshow Mel:

image
And here are the Skinner Sisters:

image
And, finally, the Be Sharps:

image
So, the bottom line on the Open Air Stage is this: it’s well worth the donuts for those who are at level 29; it’s an especially good purchase for those who have Barney, Moleman, and Sideshow Mel as well; and if you’re at a lower level, you may want to hold off for a while until you can really make use of it.

And if you’re easily tempted into additional premium spending, consider this one carefully – it could well be a “gateway” building to more premium expenditure!

Drederick Tatum (Springfield’s thinly-disguised answer to Mike Tyson) arrives with the Springfield Coliseum as part of the ninth prize in the Whacking Day event – and with him comes a short quest that involves a tiger, a dinner at the Gilded Truffle, and some differing views on what it takes to stay in shape.

image
1. The Champ’s Come-Back Part 1 Whack 10000 snakes and win the Springfield Coliseum and Tatum. The Coliseum will be delivered to your Inventory (the cardboard box in the left-hand corner of your build menu) and its construction will take 24 hours.

image
When it’s done, Drederick Tatum join your merry band of New Springfielders as one of your new and improved group of B-List Celebrities.

image
2. The Champ’s Come-Back Part 2 Tatum is less than happy to be back in Springfield. One of the first people he encounters is Apu (who doesn’t need to be free).

image
Apu: Drederick Tatum! What an honor! I studied your “Rock ‘em, Sock ‘em” workouts to learn how to defend my Kwik-E-Mart.
Tatum: Those DVDs paid for a lake house in Switzerland… for my accountant after he stole my money. I’ve had to scale back my extravagant lifestyle. Now if you’ll excuse me, I have to go walk my tiger.
Which is what he does for the next 4 hours. Keep Homer free as he finishes.

image
3. The Champ’s Come-Back Part 3 Homer is impressed by Tatum’s tiger…

image
Tatum: Homer Simpson! It’s been too long since I gave you severe brain damage.
Homer: Oh, don’t worry. My tough is brain.
Tatum: Let me buy you a big unhealthy dinner. After the beating I gave you, I think it’s only fair I help you die faster so you can no longer feel pain.
If you haven’t got to level 16 yet in your regular game, you’ll have to wait until you do to build the Gilded Truffle and send Tatum and Homer there to dine together for 2 hours.

4. The Champ’s Come-Back Part 4 It’s a good meal at the Truffle as always – and it also serves to highlight just how the phrase “stay in shape” can mean different things to different people…

image
Homer: And I need to take a nap so I can stay in shape. That shape is spherical.
Tatum gets into his running gear and spends the next 24 hours jogging around New Springfield – while Homer assumes his favorite position and spends only 4 hours way over-sleeping for a power nap (which is much better time management!).

And that’s where we leave Tatum and Homer – which means that if you want to send Tatum to fight at the Springfield Coliseum, you’re going to need to do it yourself.

After criticism that the Valentine’s event was too easy, EA and the studio seem to have gone completely the other way and given us an event that sometimes feels more like work than work does!

A number of readers have been giving some great advice on how to make those targets (and you really should read all of Robert’s comments!). Here’s some advice from L.A on how you can get to the top prize levels:

For people who are struggling, I have a few tips to give WITHOUT USING ANY DONUTS WHATSOEVER:

1. Add a lot of people and visit them at an organized schedule everyday

If you have more friends, then that obviously means you have more snakes to whack. A good tip for whacking your friends’ snakes is that you should set a time of day to visit your friends’ towns and whack snakes, tap buildings, leave eggs, etc. What I mean by this is that you will use your time better if let’s say you have 88 friends, you visit 22 of them at 11:00 in the morning, you visit the next 22 at 3:00 in the afternoon, the next 22 at 6:00 in the evening and the last 22 at 9:00 at night. This way, you won’t have to get on the game all the time and watch if a friend or 2 is going to time up their 24 hour clocks so you can visit them and whack snakes.

2. Have an egg buddy

I have many egg buddies, friends in real life that I divide most of my eggs to everyday, and vice versa. I give 85% of my eggs I gain everyday to each of them equally, and they follow the same ratio. The rest of the 15% I give to the rest of my game friends, following the formula of 1 egg + any eggs I gain whacking snakes at their place. Also, if a friend has more than 15 unopened eggs at their Springfield or if they already obtained all 10 prizes (excluding whack boxes) through the lazy usage of donuts, I skip on placing eggs in their towns.

3. Make an account so that can be your personal egg farmer (very cheap way that I’ve devised!)

The day the Whacking Day event started and I had Homer and Lisa do their 24 hour tasks, I created a separate account that was to be my egg farmer. On that account, I harvest around 100 eggs per day that I give to my main account. (Note: You can do this on the same device, but you need to set it up with a completely different email address and ID.)

4. Hold off any quests and tasks that don’t have to do with Whacking Day.

Homer, Lisa, Flanders, Milhouse, Cletus, Apu and Willie all have their own respective tasks that gain you snakes. Have them do those tasks back-to-back-to-back until the event is over.

Using these tips I have provided, I guarantee that you will obtain at least the 10 main prizes of the event. Good luck everyone and last but not least, enjoy Whacking Day (or specificaly, month)!!!

Where we left of in the first part of the walkthrough, Apu was just recovering from what was probably the most ill-judged in-store promotion in the entire history of in-store promotions (you can read about that here). When he finishes cleaning up, though, the quest continues.

Just a reminder: this quest doesn’t seem to work like the others we’re used to. Except at a couple of points, the characters don’t need to be free for the next stage of the quest to appear. In fact, for each of the parts below, the dialog boxes will come up without a character walking around with an exclamation mark over his or her head to tell you that he or she has something to say. The quest then sits in your task book ready to begin when the character is free.

Homer needs to be free, though, to begin the next stage of the quest and it’s also a good idea to try and keep Lisa free at each key point. Quest progression is a little glitchy at the moment, so the ease with which all this has happened for me may not be your experience:

1. Whacking Day Part 5 Homer wants Ned to get involved in all the Whacking Day fun:

image
Ned: Oh I couldn’t. Killing defenseless animals is wrong.
Homer: Just pretend you’re Ehud, and the snakes are Eglon, king of Moab.
Ned: I don’t know where you got such an obscure Biblical reference, but it works for me.
And Ned goes off to spend 24 hours sending the snakes back to Hell.
2. Whacking Day Part 6 Cletus is the next to get involved:

image
Homer: If you need a weapon, what about that shotgun in your back pocket?
Cletus: Doesn’t seem very sporting…
Homer: Oh, Cletus. Whacking Day is just like any other beloved tradition: the point is to murder as many snakes as possible. By any means necessary.
Cletus: Well said, fat man.
So, Cletus takes Homer’s advice and spends the next 12 hours shooting snakes.
3. Whacking Day Part 7 Lisa isn’t taking any of this well:

image
Homer: They also committed the crime of being slimy. And the crime of scaring Indiana Jones.
Lisa: Those aren’t crimes!
Thoroughly appalled, Lisa goes off to spend the next 5 hours releasing snakes from another town. And if you really want to be a good neighbor, send her to Other Springfield for this, rather than reducing the hard-won snake count of any of your friends.
4. Whacking Day Part 8 It’s Milhouse’s turn next, and despite being bigger and stronger than the snakes, he spends 12 hours getting bullied by them (Note: If you’ve just started the game, though, you’ll need to reach level 8 and build the van Houten House in the regular quests before you can get Milhouse to carry out this particular task).

Ned will need to be free for Part 9 of the quest to appear, and you can read about this when the walkthrough continues…

image

The Whacking Day quest is quite long and should keep you going for several days. It seems to operate differently from the quests that we’re used to in that, except where indicated, the characters don’t need to be free for you to get the next stage of the quest. if they’re not free, the quest seems to come up, but they start just as soon as they’re ready. That means you don’t need to use donuts to speed anything up (and, honestly, you should never hit that donut button to skip or get through a quest anyway – it really is a waste of donuts).

For people just joining the game, none of the great Whacking Day stuff appears until you complete Whacking Day Part 1. When Homer and Lisa are done, the world of Whacking Day is miraculously revealed, and you’ll be able to whack away to your heart’s content. Until then, though, you’ll just have to do what the game tells you to do and wait patiently for the 24 hours it takes Whacking Day Part 1 to complete.

So, on with the walkthrough – it’s going to take several posts:

1. Whacking Day Part 1 Homer notices that something’s up with Lisa:

image
Lisa: It’s Whacking Day.
Homer: Woohoooo! the greatest day of the year!
Lisa: but Dad, killing snakes is eveil.
Homer: You know what snakes are, rght? Slimy, slithery guys? Always up to no good? Deserve a good solid whacking?
Lisa: Just try to whack quietly, please, so I can get some work done.
So, for the next 24 hours, Lisa does next week’s homework while Homer runs around Springfield on a snake hunt. As soon as they finish, you’ll see the Whacking Guide, letting you know that Whacking Day has begun!

image
2. Whacking Day Part 2 With Whacking Day in full swing, the next part of the quest is easy. 50 snakes are slithering around your Springfield. You just have to whack and collect them all following a conversation between Ned and Homer.
3. Whacking Day Part 3 Apu is never one to miss out on a chance for some extra cashflow. The Kwik-E-Mart is now the official Whacking Day headquarters, and he has an idea for a promotion:

image
Apu runs the Whacking Day promotion for the next 24 hours. It doesn’t end well, though.

image
4. Whacking Day Part 4 Realizing he should have put more thought into his promotion, Apu now has to do an 8-hour shift to clean everything up.

The walkthrough will continue…

That’s the big question of the day – and I think that it is feasible to geo all the way without spending donuts, but with a caveat.

The question comes about because you need to have collected 12,500 snakes to get to the 10th prize level:

image
New snakes spawn in your town every 8 minutes or so, until you reach your maximum snake capacity of 50. So, approximately every 6 hours, you have at least 50 new snakes to whack. For people who check into their games only twice a day, that’s 100 new snakes to whack (although some of them will turn into eggs).

You can also keep 6 of your characters regularly engaged on Whacking Day Tasks. Making some allowance for lost time and other quests, let’s assume that you can keep Homer, Lisa, Apu, Ned, Cletus and Willie earning 10 snakes for you each day for 20 days – that’s at least 1,200 snakes earned through character tasks throughout the event. The important point with character tasks is that they only earn you snakes – you won’t get eggs.

Once you have a Whacking License, you can also visit friends and whack 5 snakes in their towns (although only if the town is ready for a visit if you want to avoid a penalty for whacking outside the season). If you only visit half your friends (50), that’s still 250 snakes to whack each day (of course, some of these will be eggs as well).

That totals up to 11,000 total snakes to whack throughout the event for moderate but daily players. The numbers change, though, if you check into the game 3 times a day for 28 days, and visit all your friends every day – that’s 20,000 snakes. Allowing for a percentage of these to be snake eggs, that’s probably enough for you to hit your targets without buying premium items. And all of this is assuming that your friends completely fail to leave you any eggs.

So, it’s feasible, but it will certainly take a lot of regular play to get to the top end of the prizes without resorting to buying premium items.

P.S.: I welcome any corrections to any of these calculations – I’m a words person rather than a numbers person! :-)

When you get to Whacking Day Part 3, Apu holds a Whacking Day promotion. He hides a snake somewhere in the store and the first one to whack it gets a free SQUISHEE. That really doesn’t turn out to be such a great idea, because it leaves his store looking like this:

image
His store goes back to normal in the very next task when he does an 8-hour shift to clean things up. But any time you get him to do his 24-hour Whacking Day promotion task and earn some extra snakes, that’s what the Kwiki-E-Mart will end up looking like.

I’m beginning to suspect, though, that EA may have also have asked Apu to design to the social element of Tapped Out’s Whacking Day event, but that’s a topic for another post…

img-thing

Whacking snakes takes a lot of time, effort and dedication. The good news is that a number of regular (non-premium) characters have Whacking Day tasks that earn you some extra snakes – and the other bit of good news for newer players, is that it’s only the characters appearing up to and including level 10 that have these new tasks.

The snake-earning tasks unlock as soon as you’ve completed Homer and Lisa’s 24 hour tasks in Whacking Day Part 1. Here’s a list of what you’ll find (and feel free to add anything I’ve missed):

Character Task Length Snakes
Homer Snake hunt 24hours 10
Cletus Shoot snakes 12 hours 5
Willie Inject himself with snake venom 12 hours 5
Lisa Release snakes from another town 5 hours 3
Ned Send snakes back to Hell 24 hours 10
Milhouse Get bullied by a snake 12 hours 5
Apu Hold a Whacking Day promotion 24 hours 10

Skinner also has a new task (but this doesn’t earn you snakes, so more on that later), and Lisa’s task needs an entire post of its own. And if you’re looking in a premium direction, all of Ninja Homer’s tasks earn you snakes and XP (but the premium route to more snakes will also be covered in its own post).

The bottom line is that keeping your snake-earning characters busy, as well as whacking, will help you get all of the free stuff – and if you missed the post on the prizes, you can find it here.

The level 27 update has brought a few new-ish tasks for a number of characters.

Lisa finally has her 30-minute meditation task (this appeared for a week as a locked task then disappeared, and was the first real signal that the Springfield Buddhist Temple was on the way). You get to send her there as soon as the Temple is built, and it’s independent of Lenny and Carl’s quest:

image
Apu’s 7-day Kwik-E-Mart task, last seen just after Christmas (at that time it was a 168-hour task) has reappeared. I was wondering if this a sign of things to come for Easter, but I’ve had reports that many players have had this for a while, so now I’m wondering if there was something wrong with my game! (It definitely wasn’t there for me a couple of days ago when I sent Apu on a 24-hour task, the longest he had available.) Anyway, here it is – it may or may not be new for you:

image
And Tom O’Flanagan now gets to spend 24 hours at the track. This used to be a 3-hour task for him – but as he no longer has any customers, I guess he has a lot more time on his hands!:

image

Update: I think we might have established that the missing Apu task was a glitch in my game, though. Oh well – Lisa’s and Tom’s are definitely new-ish!

The Miranda Rights quest makes up the second half of level 17 and begins with Apu prompting the build of the police station. “Level 17″ is a very loose term, though – and that’s because even if your XP bar tells you you’re at level 17, you’re not really there until you’ve unlocked all the other buildings and characters that come before it on the build menu. So, level 17 is just an indication of the minimum level you can expect to be at before any of this happens.

If you want to see what should have happened before you get to this point, take a look at the other walkthroughs on the Walkthroughs page.

1. Miranda Rights Part 1 Almost as soon as King’s Toot’s is built, you’ll realize that Apu isn’t happy…

image
Apu: I’ve been robbed 10 times today – that’s twice as much as usual!
Apu prompts the build of the Police Station ($40,500 and 24 hours, unlocking Chief Wiggum – keep Apu and Lisa free as the build finishes to be safe).

image
2. Miranda Rights Part 2 As soon as Chief Wiggum is back, Apu launches straight into his complaint:
Apu: Chief Wiggum – the state of crime in this town is bad. Bombay bad.
Lisa: Speaking as a law-and-order Democrat, I say we need more police on the streets.
Wiggum thinks that’s a great idea and calls for Eddie and Lou. It takes him a moment or two to realize that they’re not back yet and that he’ll actually have to do his job. Reluctantly, Wiggum patrols Springfield (8 hours).
3. Miranda Rights Part 3 Finding actual work really quite tiring, Chief Wiggum decides to take a break at Krusty Burger (30 minutes – and keep Lisa free as he finishes to be safe).
4. Miranda Rights Part 4 Lisa is unimpressed:

image
Wiggum: Absolutely. And do you see any crime here at the Krusty Burger? No, you don’t! Don’t look by the register. There’s a robbery going on.
And, without any more enthusiasm than he had for the first time round, Chief Wiggum patrols Springfield again (8 hours – keep Homer free as he finishes).

The walkthrough will continue…

When you buy a Golden Scratch-R at the Kwikimart, you win donuts every time. For those of you who haven’t been brave enough to buy one yet, here is a screenshot of the game and your possible winnings:

image
But is it better than buying donuts at the donut store? Well, here’s what Lais had to say a few days ago (the currency used here is Euros, but it applies for other currencies as well):

You buy the cheapest set of donuts, 12 donuts, you pay €1,79, and that’s double the amount of donuts that you get with the worst result on the Golden Scratch-R, and double the price of it too. So if you can’t afford to buy a truckload of donuts but just need another dozen to reach the amount of donuts you need for that premium building you’re saving to buy, it might make sense to try the Golden Scratch-R and maybe you’ll get some extra donuts for the same price!

And Jayson had this to say (using $US):

I’ve calculated the Golden Scratch-R “Worth” using this site’s info -
http://simpsonswiki.net/wiki/User:Phinbart/Tapped_Out_progress -
to determine scratcher odds. I found the average donut output on the scratcher is 13.57 (or 13.7 per $1). This is slightly better than the $9.99 donut buy (13.2donuts/$) but not nearly as good as the $19.99 donut buy (15donuts/$).

So, even if you don’t have the occasional bigger win, each time you buy a Golden Scratch-R, you’re doing just as well, and even slightly better, than buying a dozen donuts through the donut store. And you’re making Apu very happy.

image

This stage of the quest involves most of your Springfielders. You may have noticed that Homer, Principal Skinner, Edna Krabappel, Apu, Cletus, Comic Book Guy, Willie, Ned Flanders, Grampa Simpson and Barney all have an additional 4-hour task to drink at O’Flanagan’s Pub (that it’s at the top of their task lists probably means it won’t be there after St. Patrick’s Day). Don’t worry if you don’t have some of these characters. You can still get through the quest. In fact the only characters you really need to complete the quest are Homer, Willie and Tom.

So, continuing from part 1 of the walkthrough (which you can find here), Homer and Tom should be free at the end of their pub promotion and jig dancing to open O’Flanagan’s Pub. Before you can get on with that, though, there’s a conversation involving Cletus and Lisa promoting the Wishing Well and Leprechaun that goes something like this (neither Cletus nor Lisa needs to be free for this):

Cletus: Saw me a little green fella this morning – and not a drop if moonshine the night before.
Lisa: That must be a Leprechaun. According to Irish folklore, they’re miniature old men that frequently have pots of gold.
Homer: By “gold” do you mean grind currency or donuts?
Lisa: Neither. I just mean gold.
Homer: But that’s worth nothing in our world!
Lisa: Still, it would be nice to have a leprechaun in our town. We should build a wishing well to entice one.
Leprechaun: Premium character, am I. Ain’t that a fine thing!

After that little promotional diversion, the quest continues:

1. St. Paddy’s Day Part 4 Hoping that Americans have as unhealthy a relationship with alcohol as his countrymen, Tom goes to open his bar and serve drinks (4 hours). At he same time, you need to send your Springfielders in for the full Irish pub experience. It doesn’t matter who goes, you just need to rack up 12 visits in all and you can send the same character in more than once (4 hours per visit – keep Tom free at the end of the 12th visit)
2. St. Paddy’s Day Part 5 After working so hard pouring pints of Guiness for thirsty Springfielders, Tom decides to put his feet up for a while and watch some old horse races (60 minutes – keep Homer free as he finishes)
3. St. Paddy’s Day Part 6 Homer had such a great time that he decides to do it all again, encouraged by Tom. So it’s back to the bar for Tom to serve drinks (4 hours) and time for your other pub-loving characters to enjoy another party (12 more visits by any of the characters and as many times as you need to send them for each character – 4 hours each visit and keep Homer and Willie free as the party winds up)

More to come…

image

This is the second part of a series of walkthroughs leading you towards unlocking Moe’s, together with Moe and Marge (level 15). You can read the first part here.

By this stage, you’ll be getting lots of random tasks that are not associated with the main quests. You should do these anyway to allow the task you are looking for to come up.

1. Just Like Mom Used to Make Making Willie have haggis is one of a couple of tasks that are likely to come up while the library is being built (8 hours)
2. Death by Squishee Making Bart and Milhouse shop at the Kwik-E-Mart is another (1 hour)
3. Quicky at the Kwik-E-Mart Making Skinner shop at the Kwik-E-Mart is yet another (1 hour)
4. My Glorious Return! Martin arrives and you’ll be asked to place Snapdragons so that he can carry out his first task, smelling the roses (snapdragons, actually, for 10 minutes – Bart should be free as he finishes)
5. Allies At Last! Pt. 1 Bart and Martin interact so that they can help each other – beginning with Martin riding a bike (8 hours)
6. Allies At Last! Part 2 Martin and Bart both study all night for meaningless test (24 hours – keep Principal Skinner free as they finish)
7. The Dungeon Keeper Part 1 Principal Skinner prompts Bart to go to school, presumably to do his meaningless test (6 hours)
8. Fun At Your Expense Bart and Martin both go and play paintball in the Brown House (2 hours)
9. The Dungeon Keeper Part 2 Bart prompts the building of the Android’s Dungeon ($30,000 and 24 hours, unlocking Comic Book Guy – you may get a Bart and Martin sleepover while it’s being built)
10. The Dungeon Keeper Part 3 Right away, Bart goes to loiter at the Android’s Dungeon (30 minutes – keep Lisa free as he finishes)
11. The New Evergreen Terrace Part 8 Lisa prompts you to build the Orange House ($24,500 and 24 hours – and not at all useful until you have Dr. Hibbert and he uses it to deal organs on the black market; keep Apu free as the build finishes)
12. Long Kwik-E-Shift Make Apu do a Kwik-E-Mart 12-hour shift
13. Nerds ‘R’ Us If you have a Gazebo, you’ll be asked to make Comic Book Guy attend a Mensa meeting (3 hours)
14. Let’s Stay Up All Night Watching TV Bart and Milhouse have a sleepover (24 hours)
15. A Quick Snack Between Snacks Comic Book Guy eats at Gulp ‘n’ Blow (1 hour)
16. An Apu’s Work is Never Done Apu works a 24-hour shift at the Kwik-E-Mart (keep Ned Flanders free as he finishes)
17. I’m a Super Hero Comic Book Guy does some cosplay (12 hours)
18. Passion of the Flanders Part 1 Ned prompts you to build the First Church of Springfield ($32,500 and 24 hours, unlocking Reverend Lovejoy)

To be continued…

image

This walkthrough continues from Unlocking the control building (part 1).

For those doing the Valentine’s Quest, it’s important to remember that you only unlock buildings and characters in the main quest – so, if you haven’t unlocked the Control Building following all the steps in the walkthrough here, Homer won’t be able to go and earn the money to buy flowers at Howard’s Flowers.

So, you’ve just built the White House (where Dr. Hibbert will later attend Republican meetings). Homer needs to be free as it finishes. What next?:

1. Book Worm Lisa reads a book again
2. Krusty Burger Heavy User Part 1 Homer eats at Krusty Burger (this is only a 30-minute task)
3. Krusty Burger Heavy User Part 2 Homer eats at Krusty Burger again
4. Krusty Burger Heavy User Part 3 Wanting a bit of a change of pace, Homer prompts you to build a Gulp ‘n’ Blow ($13,500 and 24 hours but no new characters are unlocked – keep Skinner, Lisa, and Milhouse free as it finishes)
5. Schoolhouse Crock Part 1 Skinner acts as the school crossing guard (4 hours)
6. Let Yer Hillbillies be Hillbillies Cletus brews moonshine (24 hours – note that this is a task, not the crop)
7. Schoolhouse Crock Part 2 Lisa goes to school and so does Milhouse (6 hours)
8. Schoolhouse Crock Part 3 Skinner monitors the halls (12 hours)
9. It’s Not Easy Being Green II Plant a tree / plant a shrub (initiated by Lisa)
10. Schoolhouse Crock Part 4 Skinner prompts you to build Willie’s Shack ($12,000 and 24 hours – Willie unlocks when the build is finished)
11. All Eyes on Krusty Krusty comes to terms with his own status as a B-character by holding an exclamation mark over his head to inflate his own importance (6 hours)
12. Monkeys Need Exercise Too! Krusty walks Mr. Teeny (12 hours)
13. Schoolhouse Crock Part 5 Willie waxes the school’s floors (24 hours)
14. Is It Even Autumn? Willie rakes leaves (12 hours – keep Apu, Homer, and Lisa free as Willie finishes)
15. It’s Pronounced Nu-cular Part 1 In an interaction with Homer and Lisa, Apu prompts the building the Cooling Towers at the Springfield Nuclear Power Plant ($15,000 and 24 hours – unlocking Mr Burns)
15. It’s Pronounced Nu-cular Part 2 As soon as the Cooling Towers finish, Burns prompts the building of the Reactor Core ($18,500 and 24 hours – keep Burns free as it finishes)
16. Release the Hounds Mr. Burns walks the hounds (12 hours)
17. Quicky at the Kwik-E Lisa shops at the Kwik-E-Mart (1 hour)
18. It’s Either This or a Bath Cletus de-louses the young-uns again (4 hours)
19. It’s Pronounced Nu-Cular Part 3 Burns prompts the building of the Control Building ($15,000 and 24 hours – keep Burns and Homer free as it finishes)

So, now you have the Control Building. The next part of the walkthrough will take you up to Bart’s Treehouse.

image

This walkthrough continues from How do I get the van Houten House (part 1) and part 2. It takes you from building the van Houten House all the way up to building Springfield Elementary and the White House.

I haven’t indicated any levels here because the level at which a building or character unlocks is really a minimum level. You need to first complete all the tasks and quests that apply to the buildings that come before it on the list before you can unlock a particular building.

So, on with the walkthrough:

1. Extra, Extra! Place a newspaper dispenser
2. It’s Either This or a Bath Cletus de-louses the young-uns

Just a reminder of a couple of the rules of the game:

- to unlock buildings and characters, you need to complete all tasks you get (although they may come in a slightly different order from the way they are set out here);
- premium characters (like Shauna or Bumblebee Man) and special quests (like those at Valentine’s Day) don’t help you unlock buildings or characters any faster than your normal game progress.

So, in Part 1, we got to Cletus’ Farm. Part 2 takes us all the way up to the van Houten House:

1. Slack-Jawed Yokel Pt. 2 Plant Tomacco – and then, when it’s done, harvest the Tomacco
2. Apu Plus Eight Apu feeds the Octuplets (1 hour)
3. The Mysterious Brown House Pt. 2 Apu relaxes for a while in the Brown House (making him the second character to find a use for the Brown House – there’ll be many more!)
4. Chillin’ With the Box The Brown House action continues as Homer uses it to watch TV again
5. Hey Whittle, Whittle Cletus does some whittling (1 hour)
6. Adventures in Flanders-Sitting Lisa babysits Rod and Todd (8 hours)
7. Crop Share You need to grow and then harvest Silvertongue at Cletus’ Farm

13. The New Evergreen Terrace Pt. 5 Lisa prompts the building of the Blue House ($1800 and 12 hours)
14. Made with U.S.D.A Letter-Grade Beef Pt. 2 Once Krusty Burger has finished building, Homer eats there (30 minutes)
15. Hedge Your Bets Lisa will ask you to place a large hedge
16. MyPad Homer plays with his MyPad again (it’s a short quest – only 45 seconds – and it may come up earlier or later)
17. Thrillhouse Pt. 1 Lisa and Homer interact, which prompts you to build the Van Houten House ($3800 and 24 hours) and unlock Milhouse.

I’ll continue the walkthrough in another post, taking you up to unlocking the Control Building.

This is a long post – so if you’re well progressed in the game, I’d advise you to skip right over it.

To get beyond the very first Valentine’s Day quest you need Milhouse. But if you’ve just joined the game with the Valentine’s Day update, you won’t have him – and that’s because of the way the game works. You can’t just build any building you choose. You can only unlock characters and their buildings by doing tasks a series of tasks in a very precise order.

It’s important to note that the levels at which buildings are supposed to unlock are minimum levels only – if you gain a lot of friends quickly, you’ll level up faster. However, you’ll still need to complete every task in order before the you can unlock any new buildings or characters.

So, here it is – for new players, the first part of a walkthrough from the very beginning of the game right up until building the van Houten House and unlocking Milhouse. This part takes you up until you build Cletus’ Farm:

1. Square One Build the Simpsons’ house (this takes you to level 2 and unlocks Lisa)

image
2. Springfield Cleaners Pt. 1 Despite his objections, Homer cleans up some of the debris left by the explosion (6 seconds – don’t make him clean up everything – just one piece if debris is enough at this stage. You need something for Lisa to do in a moment and a few stages later on)
3. Springfield Cleaners Pt. 2 Lisa joins in the Springfield clean up (6 seconds)
4. The New Evergreen Terrace Pt. 1 Build a road
5. Who Needs the Kwik-E-Mart Build the Kwik-E-Mart (you’re asked to use some of your donuts to speed this up – it unlocks Apu and levels you up to level 3)

image
6. The Others Frink appears from the Other Springfield and tells you to pay a visit there; do what he says and collect some extra cash and XP
7. The Box, The Box! Get a Mystery Box containing some donuts – try to hang on to these because they’re rare from this point on (this levels you up to level 4)
8. Soylent Bean Lisa goes shopping at the Kwik-E-Mart
(1hour)
9. Thank Ganesh Apu prays to Ganesh (45 seconds)
10. Working Hard Homer or Lisa need to clean up Springfield a bit more (if there’s no debris left, you’ll need to buy some more land first)
11. The New Evergreen Terrace Pt. 2 Build the Brown House
12. The Mysterious Brown House Pt. 1 Homer breaks into the Brown House and watches TV
13. The Taxman Cometh Collect money from houses (this should level you up to level 5 if you haven’t got there already – how quickly you level up becomes a bit unpredictable now, so this is the last time I’ll indicate an increased level)
14. The New Evergreen Terrace Pt. 3 Move the Kwik-E-Mart because it doesn’t really belong next to the Simpsons’ house (this unlocks Ned Flanders and lets you build the Flanders’ house)

image
15. Shopaholic Collect money from shops
16. Green Thumb Plant trees (Lisa initiates this task, so it can’t happen until she’s free)
17. Donut-denominated Decorations Place Homer’s Hammock (you have no choice here about spending some of your donuts – I don’t think you can move on unless you do)
18. That Ain’t Right Ned condemns science
19. myPad Homer plays with his MyPad (this is the task that is referred to as necessary to build the Escalator to Nowhere and the Popsicle Skyscraper)
20. Hardly Working Place the kiddie pool
21. Property Values Buy a land expansion
22. I-Choo-Choo-Choose-You Add a friend (you can’t do this if you’re playing the Android version of the game: don’t worry, though – your progress isn’t affected by not completing this one)
23. Getting Benched Place a bench so that Lisa can read a book (strangely, she reads it under a tree rather than using the bench you’ve just placed)
24. Put up a Parking Lot Build a Parking Lot for the Kwik-E-Mart
25. Pave Paradise Place some pavement around the Kwik-E-Mart
26. Slack-Jawed Yokel Pt. 1 Build Cletus’ Farm and unlock Cletus (Apu prompts this – it costs $1,200 and takes 1 hour. Build it then send all characters on 1 hour tasks so everything finishes when you’ve finished building the farm.)

Part 2 will take you from Cletus’ Farm up, through Krusty Burger, and up to the van Houten House.
