Archives for posts with tag: Easter

There have been quite a few comments on other threads (as well as on the forums and the Facebook page) about the fact that there was no special event or free donuts for either Easter or April Fool’s Day. Rather than having those comments take other posts completely off topic, I thought a separate post might be helpful.

Easter is an easy one – not every holiday or event is celebrated in the game and particularly when two “holidays” occur close to each other, if we see one in the game, we probably won’t see the other. This year, EA chose to give us St. Patrick’s Day rather than Easter. Together with the two episode promotions and a new level, this meant that there was quite a lot going on during March by the standards of a non-event month in Tapped Out. While Easter Egg collecting would have made a great event task, it may well be something we see next year.

But what about April Fool’s Day? A number of commenters have suggested that this is much more of a Simpsons occasion. While they make be right, April Fool’s Day is probably best avoided if you’ve been running a game that has recently been experiencing a run of bugs and glitches. It’s also a day where pranks, by tradition, only count if they’re played in the morning. And in a global game, it’s always the wrong time of the day somewhere. In fact, as this post is appearing, it’s still April 1 in some parts of the world, but the sun’s already up on April 2 in others.

So why weren’t there free donuts for either occasion? Some special days have resulted in free donuts in the past – Labor Day, Christmas, New Year, Valentine’s Day, and St. Patrick’s Day (and possibly Thanksgiving and Black Friday, but my memory is a little hazy and the reports are inconsistent about these). But not every special day means free donuts – and I fully expect that in the future we’ll see some special occasions resulting in donuts and others going completely unmarked.

But the best reason to explain why nothing happened over the weekend is that there’s probably something bigger and better just around the corner.

Well, the usual update times on a Thursday have come and gone (around about 9am or 5pm Central US time) and there’s no Easter event. While it’s not surpising (there was nothing in the files, but there was nothing for St. Patrick’s Day either), it’s a little disappointing. And perhaps that’s because with updates every Thursday in March that gave us two episode promotions, the St. Patrick’s Day event and a new level, EA had created the impression without saying anything that there would be an update today as well.

There may still be some free donuts on Easter Sunday, but the chances of an event are slim to none. But most level 27 players are still working through the new quest and players at lower levels still have it to look forward to.

And what’s going to happen in April? We really won’t know for sure until after Easter. It will certainly be fun, though.

I’m still hoping for a small Easter update, but it’s looking less likely with each passing day. It’s just hit Thursday on the West Coast of the US, and Thursday has been update day throughout this month, so if nothing happens today then it’s highly unlikely anything will happen at all (apart from the possibility of a few free Easter donuts). We’ll just have to wait and see.

In the meantime, there are a couple of things happening on the blog this week that you may have missed:
- the new character poll: if you haven’t voted, vote now. The poll closes on Saturday (and new poll ideas are always welcome!). You can find the poll here;
- the Simpsons quiz: set by Rcsprinter last weekend, you can find it at http://is.gd/jIToCC – try and do it from memory, rather than Wikipedia. And, when you’ve finished, put your score in the comments and he’ll announce the winner on the weekend.

Also, my special thanks to the 20 or so people who have made a contribution to the upkeep and maintenence of this site. I really appreciate your support. Before I put these buttons away until the next milestone (2,000,000 hits), if you would also like to contribute through PayPal, please feel free to do so. The Simpsons Last Supper

Not necessarily…

Last week saw the third App Store/Google Play update this month. And just as there was no sign of the St. Patrick’s Day update in the files until the in-game update came, there may still be a short Easter event on the way.

Our last chance to get this is probably on Thursday evening US time – that seems to have been update day throughout this month. As usual, EA is keeping very quiet, but that means nothing.

So what do I expect? I think there may be something this week, although there is really no guarantee. And that’s because while higher level players have just had something new to play with or aim towards, there hasn’t been anything new for lower level players since St. Patrick’s Day ended. However, it’s worth noting that, back in January, there was nothing new between the level 25 release on January 11 and the Valentine’s Day update at the end of January.

And if there isn’t anything new this Thursday, it may simply be because something bigger is on the way.

Here’s the second post from rcsprinter:

Hello again, readers. So, here’s the second edition of “Outsiders’ Musings” written weekly by myself.

This week I thought I’d see who’s a proper, all-knowing Simpsons fan. Which of you has watched all the episodes, studied each character, and examined everything related?

I’ve devised a quiz which you can find at http://is.gd/jIToCC to test your knowledge. Post your score out of 55 in the comments section below and I’ll mention the winner by their Origin name next week. But no Googling for the answers – that’s not sporting.

In other news, most people will be aware that level 27 was finally released a few days ago, along with a couple of buildings, characters, and a premium item that were hiding on your device. A full walkthrough for the new quests will be posted soon, but I thought that if this is what’s coming now, imagine what we’ll get in the next few months (see OMI for our wish-list). If we don’t get an Easter event too, I’ll eat my hat. What sort of quests do you think would fit this and what characters would be involved? Please email and interact – that’s what’ll be a regular thing for these posts.

And as usual, you can contact me at rcsprinter.wikipedia@gmail.com with any suggestions or comments about the posts. Players are still welcome to send in their whole town pictures to be displayed in the gallery too. You can find instructions on how to do this here.

I’ll return next week

Yesterday I posted about when level 28 can be expected (you can see that post here). The other question I’m getting a lot of is whether there’ll be an Easter update.

The answer to that at the moment is that’s there’s really no answer. By all accounts, there’s nothing lurking around in the files waiting to be unlocked. But that doesn’t mean that nothing’s on the way. The St. Patrick’s Day event came in its own App Store/Google Play update and if there’s going to be an Easter event, I suspect it will come the same way.

While EA has said nothing yet about an Easter update, I think that some kind of Easter event is a possibility. After all, the level 27 update only added something to the game for players at the top end – and that means it’s highly likely that something will come next week to keep everyone else engaged and interested.

And just as there’s no indication of whether there’ll be an Easter event, there’s also no indication of what kind of an event it will be. However, unless Origin is miraculously released next week for Android players of Tapped Out, if there’s anything at all, my guess is that it will be something like the St. Patrick’s Day event rather than an event that involves visiting friends.

St. Patrick’s Day is going on a little longer than most of us expected. While there was an update on Monday US time, it was a little like the pre-St. Patrick’s Day update – with nothing new happening immediately. That means players still struggling to get to level 10 in regular gameplay to build Willie’s Shack had a bit of extra time to do so and still finish the St. Paddy’s Day quest, your Springfield citizens had a few extra days to drink pints of Guinness together at O’Flanagan’s – and Springfield’s rivers remain a nauseating green beyond St. Patrick’s Day itself.

So when will we get our blue rivers back? The best guess based on recent experience is sometime in the afternoon of Thursday, 21 March US time. Apart from re-bluing the rivers, exactly what will happen then is still anyone’s guess – it may be level 27 or it may be an Easter update or it may be both (I’m taking the fight between the Easter Bunny and the Leprechaun in the opening credits of last week’s episode as an indication that an Easter update is still a possibility – but maybe I’m reading too much into it!)

And for those who are still not sure why the rivers are green in the first place, it’s a Chicago St. Patrick’s Day tradition. Here’s a link sent in by Edd explaining everything: http://www.digitalspy.co.uk/odd/news/a466465/chicago-river-is-dyed-green-for-st-patricks-day-pictures.html

Simpsons__scaled_300

Simpsons tapped out level 27” is currently one of the most popular search terms hitting this blog. And with St. Patrick’s Day soon to be a memory and episode promotions traditionally only lasting a few days, it’s a very good question.

You can see some of the speculation about what the next update might contain here and here, supported by Lisa’s locked meditation task. But will we see these on Monday? Or will there be a new event – perhaps for Easter. They’re both possibilities – but it’s also possible that we’ll have to wait a few days and we won’t see anything until later in the week.

It’s been just over a month since level 26, so it’s likely that level 27 is due. It’s also possible that there’ll be an Easter event – but at this stage it’s anyone’s guess. And in recent times, updates have come through on Thursday afternoons US time (usually when I’m busy with other things), so it may be that there will be a few days of “business as usual” before something new happens, as was the case after the Gorgeous Grampa promotion.

If nothing new comes through on Monday, my advice would be to keep checking into your game at around mid-afternoon US Central time throughout the coming week. Something is on its way – but exactly what and exactly when will probably remain a secret until we see it in the game.

As anyone who plays several times a day will already know, EA released a game update a short time ago through the App Store and Google Play. For the moment, absolutely nothing has changed in the game and, for the moment, EA are keeping quiet about what the update might or might not contain. So, when can we expect any of the changes that may be lurking in the update files to materialize?

Based on recent experience, Thursday or Friday afternoon US Central time seem to see something new happen, so I’ll be making sure I check in then (or as close to it as I can, given that I’ll be traveling again). But exactly what we’ll be checking for remains a question that we’re all asking. Here’s some of the speculation:

- level 27
- a new Gil deal
- a new episode promotion
- an Easter event (with the update released early to avoid the Valentine’s update issues)
- some new premium and regular characters and items to tide us over until a Whacking Day event, which may or may not be scheduled for April
- just some bug fixes (although it’s clear that it doesn’t include a total harp fix)

Anything I missed? Feel free to join in the speculation – but I’m pretty sure that something’s on the way soon.

The latest update saw Gorgeous Grampa, the Gorgeous Grampa Billboard (both for a limited time only), and the Golden Scratch-R Game. But there was no new special event and no level 27. Why not?

Let’s deal with Level 27 first. It’s only been a couple of weeks since level 26 was released, so expecting a brand new level within that time frame was always optimistic. Currently, there’s about a month to six weeks between levels and I really don’t expect them to start coming any more quickly than that.

As for a special event, each time one finishes, the game seems to go back to normal play for a while before the new event begins. Easter is not until the end of the month, so that’s still possible. And with Springfield’s Whacking Day in May, that’s also a possibility as a special event for April/May.

So, something will come – but probably not until March 7/8 at the very earliest. It may already be sitting on your device, waiting to unlock at just the right time.

burns_grandpa_01121518_595_slogo

I’ve been looking at the search terms hitting my blog today through Google and one set of terms is surprisingly common given that it’s just 24 hours since the level 26 update. And that’s “simpsons tapped out level 27″.

Level 26 has only just arrived and there probably won’t be a level 27 until mid-March at least (unless EA have a couple more surprises up their sleeves). That’s been the usual gap between levels since September 2012.

With that in mind, my best advice would be to relax and enjoy level 26. However much you may be tempted, don’t use donuts to speed up tasks because once they’re done, they’re done and from then on it’s a really long wait. Take the scenic route rather than the expressway and enjoy the ride. And remember, too, there are still rumors (only rumors, though) of an end-of-Valentine’s event and something happening at Easter.
