The last part of this walkthrough is right below this one, but here’s the link anyway. When we left off, Bart was busily disturbing everyone in the Brown house by setting off the flares he’d bought at Malaria Zone. Now, it’s back to the Sea Captain. (T’s note: This may all kick off while Bart is setting off flares in the Brown House, or it might start once he has finished – it’s probably best to keep the Sea Captain free after Bart has finished shopping at the Malaria Zone.)

1. Squidport Part 8: On surveying the handiwork of his men, the Sea Captain finds that he is not yet satisfied with their progress. He turns to Ned (who doesn’t need to be free) for advice…

image
Ned Flanders: Mr. Captain, sir? If I could offer a suggestion… a spruce or two could really, well, spruce things up!
Sea Captain: That’s it exactly, matey! You gay men always have the best design advice.
Ned Flanders: Oh, I’m not homosexual.
Sea Captain: Neither am I, wink-wink! Now, let’s get decorating, girlfriend!
For this task, you need to buy and place 1 Boardwalk Lamp Post, 3 Boardwalk Trees, and 5 Boardwalk Fences. They’re all available in your Decorations menu. The next task has a conversation between the Sea Captain and Lisa, but only the Sea Captain needs to be free.

image
image
2. The Old Man and the Sea Part 3: Too much work in the hot summer sun could be the reason for the Sea Captain starting to make less and less sense – or there could be other reasons…

image
Sea Captain: Because… un, at three bells as the crow flies…er… sextant…
Lisa: Is everything okay, Sea Captain?
Sea Captain: I’ve been running out of nautical jargon to pepper me conversation with. Which is hard because, ye know, it’s my thing.
Lisa: You could pick up jargon from classic tales of the sea like “Treasure Island” or “Moby Dick”.
Sea Captain: Brilliant! You’re like one of them, ye know, light… buildings that shine for boats and stuff when the weather is… not good… Ya’rr. I’d best get to readin’.
And that what he does – off he goes to the Library to spend the next 24 hours reading nautical literature. There’s another conversation with Lisa in the next task but, once again, she doesn’t need to be free.

3. Squidport Part 9: With his pirate language reinvigorated by his study of nautical literature, the Sea Captain is ready to continue rebuilding the Squidport…

image
Sea Captain: Maybe a cultural imports store.
Lisa: It’s so wonderful that you want to expose people to the crafts and cultures of distant peoples!
Sea Captain: N’arr, I jest want to fleece tourists the way the locals fleeced me everywhere I went. Maybe unload som tribal gee-gaws I got conned inta buying.
It’s time to build Just Rainsticks, which is now available for $52000 in your Buildings menu. It’s a 24-hour build, as usual, and you need to have at least 12 Boardwalk sections to fit it in. Keep Lisa free when the build finishes.

image
image
4. Just Rainsticks: It’s Lisa’s turn to get excited…

image
Bart: Lis, even you have to see those things are beyond lame. It’s a giant, slow rattle.
Lisa: Rainsticks were invented by the Aztecs who believed that by recreating the sound of rain, they could call forth rainstorms to water their crops. (T’s note: You can read about them and see what they look like here: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Rainstick)
Bart: Well, they should have invented a stick that recreated the sound of them not being conquered by the Spanish.
Lisa: Wow. That was actually historically accurate.
Bart: I perk up in class when there’s ass-whoopings.
And off Lisa goes to Just Rainsticks to spend 4 hours browsing for (surprise, surprise) rainsticks.

The walkthrough will continue.

By now, many people players have built the Itchy and Scratchy Store and got over the glitch that seems to bring the quests to a halt (just put the store in your Inventory and replace it). If you haven’t, though, go and take a look at the previous post, which you can find here. It’s worth noting that if you’ve rushed ahead and used donuts to build all your Boardwalk, the next part of the quest doesn’t seem to run as it should, and you may find yourself jumping ahead. For everyone else, the Sea Captain needs to be free to keep things moving along.

1. Squidport Part 6: It’s time for the Sea Captain to critique your work so far…

image
Homer: How do we do that? I mean, I know… but explain it slowly for people who aren’t as smart as me.
Sea Captain: Head ye over to the Squidport Entrance and then, er… I don’t know just build it. And ye can always speed the work along with donuts!
Homer: What a surprise.
So, head on over to the Squidport Entrance and tap on it. Make a couple more Boardwalk sections if you haven’t already. You only need to have a total of 8 pieces to start the next task, but you only need to build 1 to complete this task. If you already have 5 pieces in total, the “Goal Complete!” notice should pop up without you having to do anything more.

2. Squidport Part 7: The Sea Captain has a question for Lisa (who doesn’t need to be free)…

image
Lisa: Are you going out to sea again?
Sea Captain: Nay, I’m going to an Adele concert and wanted to unfurl a sign that says I heart her. I’ve got bad seats so it has to be a big one.
Lisa: Well, the boardwalk used to have a place that sold camping supplies.
Sea Captain: And it shall again. Fall on, men – the cheap seats await!
By this stage, you need to have 8 Boardwalk sections so that you can build the Malaria Zone, which is now unlocked in your Buildings menu and available for $47500. It’s a 24 hour build, and Bart needs to be free when you finish.

image
image

3. A Flair for Exploration Part 1: Bart is even more excited than he was at the arrival of the Itchy and Scratchy Store…
Bart: What kind of store is this? Thermal underwear, waterproof matches, flares… Oh my God! This stuff is awesome! Fires starter, extra long forks, something that turns pee into drinking water? Why haven’t I always been shopping here?!
And off he goes to spend 4 hours buying flares.

4. A Flair for Exploration Part 2: And that gives a new “Brown house” idea…

image
And for the next 12 hours, he sets off flares in the Brown House – no doubt disturbing Otto, Kearney, Shauna and a host of others in their slightly shady Brown house activities. Keep the Sea Captain free, as Squidport Part 8 could well begin while Bart is in the Brown House.

The walkthrough will continue…

Another guest post from Mike Shuman:
To keep in line with previous posts regarding premium buildings and characters and due to the very unfortunate but hopefully temporary absence of TSTOTips, I figured I’d take on the Community Center since Rcsprinter cannot and I’ve already got it.

20130606-084429 PM.jpg
The Community Center is the premium option for Level 30 as many of us already know. It costs 150 donuts and buying it also gives you Jasper. SO the big question is, should I buy it?
Just to state first off, it is NOT necessary to acquire the Community Center and not having Jasper does not affect the Level 30 storyline whatsoever. Let me start with the cons of buying this building
1. At 150 donuts, it’s a rather pricey investment. For those with limited budgets it’s kinda hard to part with that many donuts so close to the release of the Squidport(hopefully).
2. There are no quests involving this building from any character in the game so it’s yet another unusable building.
3. For the PG-13 crowd, a quest or two involving Jasper can perceived as a little sensitive to youngsters and those that do not care for drug references or jokes(although I found it pretty funny)
4. This reason not to buy the Community Center is actually a pro and a con. It is not a limited time building meaning there’s no rush to buy it now. It will always be available so if you want it but don’t wanna spend your donuts because of what may or may not be coming, you don’t have to.
5. Lastly, I do not believe that this building contributes anything to your Conform-O-Meter ratings whatsoever. I may be wrong so correct me if I am.

20130606-084509 PM.jpg
Now onto the pros of buying the Community Center
1. It comes with Jasper who will complete your Oldies set of characters, and has a voice
2. Although it is unusable to any character, it does generate $135 and 15 XP every four hours so at least it generates income for the life of your game.
3. If you’re a completist like myself you will have to buy this, just to say you did and to have in your town.
4. It is a nice looking building and a good addition. Some people do not care if the buildings are usable, they just contribute to what an “ideal” town or community would look like or to what people have imagined for their towns.
I know there’s not much in the way of pros and cons but it’s not a very complex building aside from the fact that it comes with Jasper. The biggest thing to note is it is NOT required to advance in the game and it is not a limited time building so it will always be available for those that really want it but just can’t or do not wish to get it now. Personally, I bought it as I do every premium item and character and I love it. I hope I have been able to at least help out for those on the fence about buying the Community Center. I’ve attached a picture of mine to help sway those that are having trouble decorating it. See ya soon!

Update: This level is the reason comment moderation is back on for the time being. To those people tweeting and commenting on my “close-mindedness on gun control”, I’m just reporting the game dialog!

As you’ll recall, Bart and Milhouse need to be free for the next stage of the level 30 quest. Given the heat the gun control issue generates in th US, I’ve been tossing up whether to reproduce the dialog. In the interests of completeness, I’ve decided to go ahead, but as you go to type your comments, please remember that this blog is not really the place for a gun-control debate.

Readers outside the US who want to know more about why this is an issue can start here and to find out who the NRA is, you can take a look here. In the meantime, on with the walkthrough. Bart and Milhouse need to be free when Grampa finishes shopping at Herman’s.

1. Customers Part 3 Bart is as excited about the new shop as his mother is:

image
Milhouse: Of course! After all, the NRA says it’s the safest place for kids.
Bart: They also say us kids should sleep under a blanket of loaded guns. You know – for safety.
Milhouse: I eat my cereal every morning with a gun instead of a spoon. Because more guns everywhere means safer kids. Thanks, NRA!
With that, it’s Bart and Milhouse’s turn to spend 8 hours browsing Herman’s Military Antiques. Keep Fat Tony free when they finish.

2. Customers Part 4 Fat Tony decides to give Herman the chance to outfit his gang.

image
Fat Tony: Do you have any weapons that will create more “wow” factor for my associates?
Herman: A good blunderbuss. Of course, it only shoots one bullet every 30 seconds.
Fat Tony: A small price to pay for fashion. I’ll take a hundred.
Fat Tony decides to go ahead with his blunderbuss purchase, which inexplicably takes 8 hours. Keep Chief Wiggum free when he finishes.

3. Military Antiques Part 3 Chief Wiggum decides to check out the new shop:

image
Herman: Of course not. That would infringe on your Constitutional right to never be inconvenienced – even in the tiniest, most reasonable way – when guns are involved. It’s all part of the “Gun Buyers Are To Be Hailed As Our Worthiest Heroes” Act of 2013… sponsored by the NRA.
Chief Wiggum: Great! The ready availability of guns to the public makes my job as a cop safer AND easier.
Wiggum then spends the next 24 hours reading NRA pamphlets. Keep Apu free as he finishes.

4. Military Antiques Part 4 Pamphlet-reading doesn’t seem to have helped Wiggum clear up his confusion, something that’s clear when he drops by the Kwik-E-Mart:

image
Chief Wiggum: Something experimental, like Tony Stark wishes he had.
Apu: We don’t stock guns, you overweight imbecile.
Chief Wiggum: You do realize that it’s now illegal to operate a store that doesn’t sell firearms? It’s all part of the “How Else may We Serve, Oh Wise and Powerful NRA?” Act of 2013. You’re going to jail!
Wiggum’s confusion means that Apu needs to serve time in the Springfield Penitentiary for 24 hours. Keep Marge free when he comes out.

Phew! Fortunately, it all lightens up a bit from here. The walkthrough will continue…

When we last left Agnes and Seymour in Part 3, Agnes was sitting alone on a bench feeding the pigeons and wondering where here son had got to. Meanwhile, Seymour, tied of crashing at willie’s Shack, approaches Edna with an unlikely proposal…

1. Couch Surfin’ USA Part 2 Edna is quick to make her position clear:
Edna: Ha! No way, Seymour.
Principal Skinner: Please let me stay at your apartment, Edna. It’ll be fun. We can do our own version of Silhouette Night!

image
So it’s back to crashing at Willie’s Shack for Semour Skinner for another 12 hours. Keep Reverend Lovejoy and Agnes free when he wakes up.

2. Couch Surfin’ USA Part 3 Reverend Lovejoy is a little more welcoming:

image
Principal Skinner: Thank you, Reverend. I haven’t been able to get a decent rest in days.
Reverend Lovejoy: Well, I hope our evening activity night won’t disturb you. It’s Bingo Night.
Principal Skinner: Bingo Night! I must flee before Mother comes to clean you out. I’m sure God won’t mind if I leave the church ducking out through this stained glass window.
Agnes: let’s get ready to roll them balls!
And it’s back to crashing at Willie’s Shack for Seymour for the next 12 hours, while Agnes spends 4 hours hustling at Bingo. Keep Agnes free as he finishes.

3. Mom is the Loneliest Number Part 2 Agnes is missing her son even more:

image
Reverend Lovejoy: He asked me if he could crash at the church. I had assumed with your approval, of course.
Agnes: I’m sick and tired of his crashing. All he ever does is crash! If he crashes one more time, I’m done with him. DONE!
Reverend Lovejoy: Well … let’s not do something hasty. Why don’t you relax, get the frustration out, and think it over some more.
Agnes: What I should do is exercise. I need to build up strangth, so I can spank the hair off him.
And, with that, Agnes changes clothes and spends 6 hours sweeping up the town.

The walkthrough continues…

Agnes Skinner arrives in New Springfield with the level 29 update to make Seymour’s life miserable – and just in time for Mother’s Day in the US and other parts of the world, too. (Mother’s Day is May 12 in the US and many other countries.)

If everything were behaving normally, the level 29 quests should begin right after Fat Tony’s quest finishes. With the current glitch in quest progression still in play, it’s difficult to know whether that’s still the case. Either way, you’ll need to be at level 29 for everything to begin. And Luigi and Skinner should be free to kick things off:

1. Principaling Around Everything is going wonderfully in New Springfield and Seymour Skinner has a spring in his step, something that Luigi notices:

image
Skinner: Who wouldn’t smile in this wonderful, new Springfield? Nothing could ruin it.
Bart: Hey Seymour, your office is full of anteaters. Also ants. Also you need to tell the cafeteria to order more honey because your office is full of that too. Heh heh.
Skinner: Delightful! I needed some busy work for Willie. When he has nothing to do, he keeps inviting me to play board games. Now if you’ll excuse me, I’m going to relax and take in the avian grandeur of our fair town.
Luigi: And I will-a-romance the air with a-beautiful sounds of the accordion, the bagpipe of Italy.
Skinner: Terrific. Hopefully, there aren’t any trees near your restaurant.
So Skinner goes off to watch birds for 24 hours, while Luigi spends 12 hours outside his restaurant playing the accordion. Remove all nearby trees for Skinner’s sake and keep Milhouse free as Skinner finishes his task.

2. Hey Milhouse — Eureka! Milhouse his missing his parents…

image
Milhouse: For dinner last night, I sucked on pasta shells until they got soft in my mouth.
Bart: Hmm, Springfielders do tend to appear when we build a new building. That gives me an idea…
Milhouse: To help me not to be an orphan?
Bart: No, to really prank Skinner! We need to bring back the one thing that can get inside his head and ruin his happiness. His mother.
Milhouse: Okay. But if we’re going to build Skinner’s house, we’re going to need a lot more pillows.
This prompts the build of the Skinner House ($196,500 and 24 hours) and unlocks Agnes Skinner. Keep Seymour free as the build finishes.

image

3. There are Skinners and Winners Part 1 Skinner instantly notices the change…

image
Agnes: Thought you’d gotten rid of me, did you. Now put on an apron and tidy up. Turns out limbo is pretty dusty.
Skinner: But Mother…
Agnes: No buts, Seymour. Get to work! When I get back from Bingo tonight, the table top better be clean enough for me to see my disapproving face in it!
And Agnes goes off to spend 4 hours hustling at bingo. Keep Skinner free as she finishes.

4. There are Skinners and Winners Part 2 Agnes appear to be great at multi-tasking as Seymour notices a few more changes now that she is back.

image
Agnes: You’re darn tooting. There are a lot of naughty pictures in the Wikipedia.
Seymour: I don’t have time to fight you right now – I have to get to work… where no one can tell me what I can and can’t look at, because we don’t have any computers.
Seymour heads off to the relative peace and quiet of a 12-hour day monitoring the halls. Keep Comic Book Guy and Agnes free as he finishes.

The walkthrough will continue…

One of the most frequent questions coming through the comments on various posts in the past few weeks has been to do with the sequencing of quests. Here’s a couple from the last few days:

Sleepy gizmo: I finished all the quests leading up to King Toots nearly a week ago but I still haven’t been given the quest to get it. Do you have any suggestions?

Brandon: Is someone ever gonna fix this Hospital glitch?!! I’m also waiting on the Adult Education Annex to unlock. I’ve had a task for that since 25 and that’s on 27. I’m on 28 and still no Annex or Hospital!!

What has happened is that around the time that Whacking Day began, the quests stopped behaving as they’ve behaved since the game began in March last year. Quests started appearing out of order, and you got half way through one quest only for the next one to start.

Some of the forums believe that this is a new way for the game to behave and not a glitch – and that there are now main quests featuring the first building at a level and side quests that lead to or from the second. I don’t really subscribe to this – particularly as, from level 20 on, the so-called “main” and “side” quests form one continuous storyline in most cases. I believe it’s a glitch, and it’s one that I hope will be fixed with the next update.

All you really have to do is respond to those exclamation marks – all the buildings and characters unlock sooner or later, although not in the right order. The combination of Whacking Day and random tasks can make it all a bit difficult to follow, but reports coming in to this blog consistently report that things do eventually get back on track.

So, the bottom line is – if your quests are appearing in the wrong order and none of the walkthroughs seem to resemble what’s happening in your game, don’t worry. It’s all perfectly normal in a very abnormal kind of way. But everything will show up eventually.

There are only four tasks that make up Respectable Moe’s quest – but, as many of you will already have discovered, the length of a couple of the tasks means that it all takes at least 3 days to play in real time. So, here’s what happens once you get the message that Moe has a new suit and you can find it in your Inventory:

1. Moe’s New Suit Part 1 Once you put the suit on Moe, his quest begins (no other characters need to be free at this stage):
Moe: What’s this? A suit! And in my thin-shouldered hunch-backed Quasimodo size!
Homer: Wow Moe! When you wear it, it looks like you’re standing up straight!
Moe: That’s because I AM standing up straight. For the first time in my life I’ve got self-loathing!
Homer: You mean “self-confidence”?
Moe: Yeah, that one. I’m just so used to saying the other.
Feeling unusually good, Respectable Moe spends the next 12 hours strutting in the suit. Keep Homer and Marge free for the next part.

image
2. Moe’s New Suit Part 2 Homer really notices the difference in Moe:

image
Marge: I’m just glad to see him doing something other than leering at me from a bush.
Homer: Hey Moe! Marge and I were thinking of going out for a bite. Normally we wouldn’t invite you on account of you being unpleasant and unpresentable and… well, you, know, you. But now you’ve got that suit, we don’t mind being seen with you in public.
Moe: That’s the nicest thing anyone’s ever said to me.
Homer: So what do you say we grab dinner at Luigi’s?
Moe: Screw that! Let’s go someplace fancy!
Homer: Um… okay.
Moe: And we’ll get drinks and appetizers and entrees and desserts!
Homer: I don’t know…
Moe: And the whole dinner will be your treat!
Homer: Maybe this isn’t such a good idea.
Moe: Too late! I already called ahead and ordered one of everything on the menu.
Now, if you already have the Gilded Truffle, you can continue with the quest. If you don’t, you’re going to have to get to it in your regular game (limited-time quests never let you jump ahead to the buildings you need). Once you have it, though, you’ll be able to send Homer, Marge and Respectable Moe to dine there for 2 hours at Homer’s expense.

image
3. Moe’s New Suit Part 3 Moe enjoyed himself…

image
Marge: You’re more than welcome Moe. It’s so nice to see you looking so slick. Is there “someone special” we don’t know about?
Moe: No. This suit can do a lot of things, but even it can’t make me attractive to dames.
Marge suggests that if Moe stopped referring to women as dames, that might help a little bit. And that it also might be an idea to clean up his bar because it looks like a pigsty.
So, Moe takes Marge’s advice and spends the next 2 days doing just that (2 days! With the task that’s part of the Rich Texan’s quest, this seems to be a something new to make shorter quests go for a little longer – and given its placement on the task list, it seems to be a permanent task!)

The conversation when the clean-up is over is one of my favorites of the game:

image
Moe: Yeah, but I still haven’t met anyone. Where are all the women in this town?
Homer: I hear you, buddy – it took me 15 levels to find Marge!
Moe: *sigh* It’s like I’m trapped in a world created by a bunch of writers who don’t know anything about women.

4. Moe’s New Suit Part 4 Moe is resigned to the fact that the town is short on female characters and, therefore, a potential love interest:

Moe: There’s a saying – unlucky at love, lucky at getting drunk. I’m going to distil some 15-year-old whiskey. Let’s hope it doesn’t actually take 15 years, like that growing corm at Cletus’ Farm job.
Luckily, it only takes 24 hours!

image
Ands that’s where Respectable Moe’s quest ends. If you’re in the US, be sure to watch Sunday night’s episode, Whiskey Business, to find out what it all means!

As part of the Whacking Day event, Lisa, Willie and Homer all have side-quests that take them away from their snake-generating tasks. Many readers are asking whether it’s worth doing these and whether they’ll still be there once Whacking Day is over.

Honestly, that’s hard to say. In the past, event quests have disappeared once the event is finished. The only exception is for Barney – a Christmas character that became a premium character. His quest was still available once the Christmas event was done, but possibly only because he stayed around. In recent times, the Valentine’s and St. Patrick’s Day quests have all come to a halt at the end of the event, even if you have all the necessary buildings and participants.

At the moment, there’s no way of telling what will happen at the end of the Whacking Day event. Certainly, you’ll still have all Gymnastic Lisa and Bare-chested Willie’s tasks to play, but whether or not you’ll still be able to carry out their quests is another question altogether. Given the Whacking Day references for these two in particular, it seems unlikely. It really may depend on whether they’re still available for donuts at the end of the event, and that’s just not clear at this stage.

My advice, though: if you’re only just on or behind the snake collecting target, keep them in snake-earning tasks for now – it won’t affect the progress of your game. Only send them off to their side-quests once you’re closer to your target prize level.

image

Just a reminder to people working through the game that the Whacking Day update seems to have messed up the normal progression of quests and tasks in the game for many players. This means that the usual prompts are not appearing when they should and buildings and characters at later levels are opening well before those at earlier levels.

This seems to be happening at all stages of the game from level 15 all the way up to level 27. There have been comments today that Carl and Lenny’s quest is only half completed before Fat Tony’s quest begins. And the already complicated route to the Hospital is being complicated further by the game jumping straight to the Channel 6 build.

All I can suggest at the moment is patience. I’m fairly sure that this is a glitch and not a new mode of operation for the game (after all, you need earlier level characters in most cases to progress at later levels). It seems that the prompts you need do come up eventually, just not necessarily at the right time or in the right order. As with all these glitches, it’s worth letting EA know – because they can’t do anything about them unless they know about them and have an appreciation of how widespread they are.

You can read an earlier post on this topic here - and scan through the comments as well so you can be prepared for what may or may not happen with the progression of your own game.

homer-angry-phone

Note: The normal strategy when a character you know is meant to prompt the next task isn’t doing that, is to put the character into storage and then take him/her out again. This works only occasionally with this glitch.

As I mentioned here, the Gymnastic Lisa quest comes in two varieties – a short version and a longer version involving Lugash. Now, you don’t need to have Lugash to complete the quest – if you haven’t bought him yet, the quest finishes with Lisa’s dream of getting an “A” in gym class coming true. In the Lugash version, however, something a little different happens after her dream and there are a few extra steps she needs to go through before she gets that top grade.

image
Lugash: To be great takes total dedication. All time invested in training. Until when mind think of losing, it also think “I AM DYING! THIS IS DEATH!”
Homer: If you’re promising to take up all of my daughter’s time with grueling psychological torments, then I think we have a deal.

Here, then, is a walkthrough of the additional parts that Lugash brings to Lisa’s quest:

1. Little Girl in the Big Ten Part 5 Lisa wants to talk to Lugash, but he cuts her off mid-sentence:

image
Lisa: I just wanted you to sign my petition against Whacking Day.
Lugash: Petition cannot stop Whacking Day – only gymnastics can stop it. By celebrating it! By doing gymnastics!
Taking his advice, Lisa goes to spend the next four hours training at Lugash’s Gym while Lugash trains children.

2. Little Girl in the Big Ten Part 6 Lisa doesn’t find training with Lugash a totally positive learning environment:

image
Homer: Sorry, we already paid for the lessons.
Lisa: But I saw a girl set her own broken leg in the middle of a somersault.
Homer: Wow. Next time that happens, film it and put it on YouTube. I’m tired of watching videos of cats.
So Lisa goes back again to spend another four hours in training and Lugash spends another four hours training children.

3. Little Girl in the Big Ten Part 7 Surprisingly, Lugash is impressed:

image
Lisa: Thanks Lugash. I still hate this, but thanks. So you think I can get an A in gym class?
Lugash: If gym class is balance beam, yes. God gave you greatest gift. Big head. Like beach ball made of bone. Give you perfect balance. Go home now. Rest your giant head. You will now pass gym examinations. I am certain of this. I am Lugash!
Lisa is so happy, she spends an hour doing cartwheels.

And it seems to have all worked:

image
Homer: Woohoo! Wait, I mean D’oh! Now what will distract you from getting all moral and judgement-y about Whacking Day? There must be more quests to keep you busy. It’s not like we constantly have nothing to do as we wait for another set of tasks to fill up our time.

So, Lugash adds an other layer to the Little Girl in the Big Ten storyline, which may make it worth you spending your donuts on him. It’s worth remembering, though, that if you want to keep Lisa in snake-earning tasks, you should be able to save this quest until later on in the Whacking Day event, although whether or not it will be available after Whacking Day is another question altogether.

Since the level 28 update, a number of people have asked how you get Fat Tony into your game. It’s an understandable question, as many players have had Fat Tony since last November, when he first appeared as a free limited-time episode promotion for the episode “Penny Wiseguys“.

Fat Tony appears when you complete the build of the Illegitimate Businessman’s Club as part of the level 28 series of quests, which means that he won’t be joining your game until you get there. To start off the build, you need to have Mayor Quimby free, and you need both Smithers and Burns free to begin the quests that follow (where Fat Tony goes for dinner at Burns Manor).

Normally I’d say that you need to have unlocked all the other buildings and characters that come before the Businessman’s Club for any of this to happen – but, recently, there has been a glitch affecting the normal progression of quests and tasks that may or may not have been resolved with the latest updates. But however you’re progressing, it’s important to remember that even if your XP bar tells you that you’re at level 28, you may not be there for game play yet if there are any buildings and characters at lower levels that need to be unlocked.

So, Fat Tony will come, but if you’re new to the game, he may still be some time away.

200px-Fat_Tony_Tapped_Out_Artwork

With level 28 here and new quests and tasks already begun – as well as those still to come for the Whacking Day event – this is a walkthrough I need to finish (and you can read the earlier parts on the Whacking Day page, here). It looks like, unless there’s something coming later, there are only two more parts though. For this part, you need Lisa, Principal Skinner. and Willie.

When we left off in the last part, Skinner had gone into hiding from Lisa for the second time. Keep Lisa free as he comes out of hiding again.

1. Whacking Day Part 12 Lisa realizes that Principal Skinner is avoiding her and comes to a decision:

image
Off she goes again to spend 5 hours releasing snakes from another town – and remember to send her to Other Springfield to do this (it’s all about karma after all!). Keep Principal Skinner and Willie free as she finishes.

2. Whacking Day Part 13 Skinner catches Willie doing something he really shouldn’t be doing in the vicinity of a school:

Willie: Snake venom. It makes you strong, according to the ancient Scots.
Skinner: I wonder why you never hear people talking about “the wisdom of the ancient Scot?”
Willie: Probably because they were idiots who were wrong about everything. Now shut up and let me inject myself.
Once you’ve built Willie’s shack in the regular quests, you can then send Willie to inject himself with snake venom for the next 12 hours.

That seems to be the end of the Whacking Day quest – but if anything else comes along, I’ll let you know.

Long-term players of the game will know that things all get a bit glitchy around the start of a big event. Maybe because of the additional server load created by millions of Android players now able to join in as well, this event is probably going to take the “glitchiest-of-them-all” award. And that’s because the glitches extend beyond the event into the regular quests.

Players are reporting quests suddenly ending and jumping one or two levels ahead, and some unusual building prices (unusual in terms of both the prices themselves and the fact they don’t usually change outside of a new level release). And the one that’s been most commented on over the last 12 hours or so is that Burns and Smithers can’t seem to stay on a bike together long enough to complete their exercise task.

Hopefully, these things will settle down soon. And one positive from all of this is that players who have been unable to progress for months due to an old glitch during the Krabappel quests are finally able to move on in the game.

When you get to Whacking Day Part 3, Apu holds a Whacking Day promotion. He hides a snake somewhere in the store and the first one to whack it gets a free SQUISHEE. That really doesn’t turn out to be such a great idea, because it leaves his store looking like this:

image
His store goes back to normal in the very next task when he does an 8-hour shift to clean things up. But any time you get him to do his 24-hour Whacking Day promotion task and earn some extra snakes, that’s what the Kwiki-E-Mart will end up looking like.

I’m beginning to suspect, though, that EA may have also have asked Apu to design to the social element of Tapped Out’s Whacking Day event, but that’s a topic for another post…

At 90 donuts and with “something bigger” on the way, Swanky Fish has given many players pause. So, is it worth sending your precious donuts on? Here are a few reasons why it might be:

1. It’s a restaurant, and those are surprisingly few and far between.
2. It helps your Gluttony rating.
3. The animation looks really good.
4. It’s an easy size and shape to fit anywhere into your town.
5. It has its own quest (although we won’t know if Principal Skinner, Comic Book Guy or Kent Brockman will still be able to dine there until it’s no longer available).
6. It’s a limited-time item, and that means that you will probably never be able to buy it again.

And some reasons why you may decide to pass:

1. It doesn’t come with any characters.
2. For a stand-alone building, it’s quite expensive.
3. There’s no guarantee that it will be used by your characters at the end of the promotion.
4. You want to save your donuts for whatever the “something bigger” on Thursday might be.

I bought it, of course, and I’m not dissatisfied with it. After a quiet period in the game, it was great to add a quest. But unless you’re a completist, it’s probably not an essential purchase.

You’ll probably have noticed that Bart has a locked 10-minute task to run away with Kang. Is that, like Lisa’s meditation task prior to the level 27 update, a sign of things to come? Longer-term players will already know the answer to this one.

Sadly, Kang isn’t a future character – he’s another one of those limited time characters, appearing in the game as part of the Halloween event in October 2012 and now no longer available. He remains part of the Treehouse of Horror XXIII set, a set that for newer players on both Android and Apple will probably always be incomplete. And there’s no guarantee that he’ll ever be available again (in fact, we’re much more likely to get Kodos!).

image
So why do players who don’t have him still see the task? Well, it seems that the game is able to hide tasks related to premium characters and buildings, but not tasks that were part of the regular, free storyline (with the exception of the one-off, hidden tasks that sometimes appear during quests). A similar example is Ned and the Mapple Store – for newer players on both platforms, this remains locked even though the Mapple Store hasn’t been available even for Apple players since the Android launch.

So even if you weren’t playing the game back in Halloween, you’ll still have the locked quest – and that’s only because longer-term game players have him and can use him as part of their regular quests. And that means, sadly, that if you joined the game after Halloween, you’ll never get to see this:

Level 20 is the last of the original game levels. From here, the quests start to get a bit longer and a bit more complicated, as they were designed to keep players occupied until new levels arrived.

The usual general warnings apply and a couple more as well:

1. If you play regularly, your XP bar may tell you that you’re at a much higher level than your real game level. I was already at XP bar level 25 (the highest level at the time) before I was able to unlock the Town Hall.
2. You can only unlock buildings through regular game play – buying a premium character will never allow you to unlock a building early (e.g. Bumblebee Man has a Town Hall task that you won’t be able to do until you unlock the Town Hall in your main game).
3. Because a lot of random quests are starting to come up by this stage of the game, you may not receive all the quests you see here in the same order as they appear. Don’t worry – so long as the main storyline appears to be proceeding, you’ll get to the next building.
4. A special note for this level: if you were able to get the Gorgeous Grampa costume, you’ll be able to put it on Grampa shortly after he arrives. It might be best to delay doing this until after you’re prompted to build the Town Hall.

Lisa should have been free at the end of the Retirement Castle build to move the game on. She prompts the start of the next series of tasks:

1. Good Samaritan Now that the Retirement Castle has been rebuilt, Lisa has something else to do with her free time:

image
So Lisa goes to the Retirement Castle to read to old people (2 hours – keep Chief Wiggum free as she finishes)
2. I Was In The War I Think The return of Grampa means that his stories are back to. And naturally that’s one of Grampa’s first tasks – to tell stories on the couch (60 minutes).
3. For the Birds Grampa may be going through some of his tasks while the tasks leading up to the Town Hall build are going on. You should already have a bench, but if you’ve put it away or sold it, you’ll need to place one so that Grampa has a place to feed the birds (8 hours)

image
4. Re-elect Mayor Quimby Part 1 As soon as Lisa finishes at the Retirement Castle, she’ll begin prompting the tasks the next series of tasks:

image
Homer: I know – it’s a lot of tapping.
Lisa: I’m just saying – we need someone to be in charge.
Chief Wiggum: Fear not! Your authority figure is already here.
And, to exercise his authority, Chief Wiggum heads off to collect bribes – 3 times (at 4 hours each time – keep Lisa free as he finishes for the third time).
5. Re-elect Mayor Quimby Part 2 Lisa is unimpressed with Chief Wiggum’s law-and-order efforts:

image
Lisa: We need someone to bring order!
Marge: How about Mayor Quimby?
Lisa: No! He’s more corrupt than Wiggum!
Homer: Too late – Town Hall already showed up on the build menu.
And because it’s too late, you need to build the Town Hall (24 hours and $48,500, unlocking Mayor Quimby).

image
6. The Buck Stops Here, The Work Also Now he’s back, Quimby has a lot of work to do. And his first and most important task is to write the book on ethics (12 hours).
7. The Mysterious Brown House Part 5 Because there are no sleazy motels yet, and he and Miss Springfield are feeling quite tired from hard work and effective governance, Quimby takes Homer’s advice and goes to take a “nap” in the Brown House (30 minutes – keep Bart free as he finishes).

I guess that means that Mayor Quimby will be as excited about a possible Whacking Day event as we all are.

The walkthroughs will continue…

Note: There’s an extra task which may or may not appear at this stage – Is It Pay Day Already? - in which Quimby collects bribes (4 hours)

Ninja Homer has been around in the game files for some time now. In fact, several months ago, a Ninja Homer image was shared on a number of the forums, and you can see it below:

So will we be seeing Ninja Homer in the game anytime soon and will this costume for Homer be part of a possible Whacking Day event? You’ll have to use the link below to find out more…

Episode promotions are really fleeting things – they arrive and they’re gone before you know it. And if you miss out on adding them to your game, it’s likely that you’ll have missed out for good.

Here are some of the items that have already come into the game and gone again within a few days during this US season of The Simpsons (and by “gone” I mean that they’re no longer available):

The Duff Racer
Fat Tony (although he may be back!)
Cool Homer and the Cool Brown House
Gorgeous Grampa and the Gorgeous Grampa Billboard
Fruit-Bat-Man and the Fruit-Bat-Signal

With the exception of the Gorgeous Grampa Billboard and Fruit-Bat-Man, all of these items were free. But are there any more planned before the 24th season ends in May?

The short answer looks like it’s “yes”, and if that’s all you really want to know, it’s probably time to move on to another post. But if you want to know more, you’ll need to follow the link just underneath the clip of Fruit-Bat-Man in action from the ANIMATION ON FOX YouTube channel:
