I posted this a while back, but here’s an updated version. I’ve revised this a bit to take into account some new information that surprised me.

According to your Conform-o-meter, to boost your Obedience rating you need to have public buildings to keep your people docile!

Keeping the Obedience rating high helps move your Conformity Bonus to its 5% maximum, giving you extra cash and XP every time you tap. Now, it can be quite challenging to improve at lower levels, as most of the public buildings you need to unlock to boost this rating arrive at later stages of the game.

So, what are the public buildings? Well, they’re the buildings that have piles of cash above them and include:
- the Library
- the First Church of Springfield (and its Heck House variant)
- the Police Station
- the Post Office
- Springfield Penitentiary
- Springfield General Hospital
- the Hibbert Family Practice
- Springfield Observatory (a premium building)
- the Springfield Subatomic Collider (a limited-time item available at Halloween)
- Springfield Cemetery (a limited-time item available at Halloween)
- Springfield Pet Cemetary (a limited-time item available at Halloween)
- the Mausoleum (a limited-time item available at Halloween)

Those are all obvious enough. But here’s the surprise – they also include O’Flanagan’s Pub, Barney’s Bowl-a-rama, the Volcano Lair, the Android’s Dungeon, the Bad Dream House from Halloween, Burns Manor and the Wiggum House. And so are the Christmas Tree and Santa’s Village from the Christmas update! And they don’t include the Springfield Elementary School or the Town Hall – these buildings have an impact on your Righteousness rating, as does Moe’s Tavern.

That’s not the full story, though. Like all the other elements of your Conformity Bonus, the Obedience rating seems to drop when there’s a new level or when you expand your land area. Fortunately, you can also improve it by putting up signs – and planting lots of the Stop Signs ($385 and unlocking at level 22) and the Hail Ants Sign ($450 and unlocking at level 23) can give it a significant boost. Exactly how many you need, however, will depend very much on the size of your town. And, if you’re a donut-user, police-cars help, too, although they’ll set you back 40 donuts each.

With business as usual in Springfield (although that still inlcludes some extended St. Patrick’s Day business), here’s part 2 of the list of animations that tell you when a character is inside a building.

While you can tap on a building to see who’s inside, the animations are an extra bit of fun. Part 2 covers all the regular buildings currently available from Jake’s Unisex Hair Palace on. You can see Part 1, covering all the buildings up to Moe’s tavern here. Premium buildings will be covered in a separate post.

Jake’s Unisex Hair Palace - there doesn’t appear to be any animation
Springfield Downs - the dog-racing animation runs when the dogs are actually racing and when characters are visiting the track
The Gilded Truffle - the windows on the second floor light up (flickering candles and people having a good time)
King Toot’s - no animations
Police Station - flashing red and white lights
Skip’s Diner - no animations
Luigi’s – smoke rises from the pipes on the roof
Springfield Penitentiary - searchlights
Retirement Castle - no animations
Town Hall - shadows moving in the windows
Muntz House - a raccoon runs onto the roof and chews some electrical wires
Krabappel Apartment - a window on the second floor opens and cigarette smoke is blown out
Channel 6 – the satellite dish rotates (when either someone is doing a task or a program is being made)
Springfield Post Office - the front doors open and mail blows out
Hibbert Family Practice - shadows move in the windows
Springfield General Hospital - the lights on the helipad on the roof flash
Burns Manor - a vulture flies out of the dome and sits on the roof
Pimento Grove - sadly unused, so no animation
Wiggum House - flashing red and blue police lights
El Chemistri - it doesn’t get any use after the level 26 quest, but I’m sure there was animation…

Part 3, focusing on the premium buildings, is still to come.

The hospital level, level 24 in game play or a much higher level in XP, is a particularly complex level. The storyline involves lots of tasks, many of them quite short. And it also involves lots of characters, as you’ll see in the walkthrough here. Often, getting through this level is simply a matter of making sure that all the key characters are free to complete the joint tasks at the same time.

However, if you find yourself unable to make progress, between building the Hibbert Family Practice and Springfield General Hospital, it may be comforting to know that there’s a known glitch at this level that’s easily resolved. And the glitch has to do with the Orange House.

You’ll see in the walkthough that Dr. Hibbert has to use the Orange House to sell organs on the black market. If you find that particular task not coming up for you, it may be because your game is not recognizing the existence of your Orange House. If that’s the case, the simple solution is to build another one – and when you do, you should find that Dr. Hibbert’s quest restarts and that you’re able to continue with your game.

Level 24 seems to have caused problems for quite a few people. That’s because it involves lots of characters, any one of whom can get caught up in random tasks that don’t progress the main quest. To help you get all your characters and tasks synchronized, here’s what’s supposed to happen. As you read through, remember my regular advice that all the tasks need to be done in order and that all the buildings before Hibbert’s Family Practice and the Hospital need to have been unlocked before any of this can take place in your game:

1. Hahahahaha Sucker Principal Skinner kicks off this quest as Bart finishes skipping school. Deciding that Bart needs to visit the doctor, he prompts you to build the Hibbert Family Practice ($75,000 and 24 hours, unlocking Dr. Hibbert – keep Bart free as the building finishes)
2. Bart’s Checkup Bart goes for a checkup (10 minutes)
3. General Practice Dr. Hibbert practices medicine (12 hours – keep Grampa Simpson free as he finishes)
4. My Pills! Grampa goes for a checkup (10 minutes – keep Cletus free as he finishes)
5. The Cletus Condition Cletus goes for a checkup (10 minutes – keep Luigi free as he finishes)
6. Luigi’s Growing Problem Luigi goes for a checkup (10 minutes – keep Mayor Quimby free as he finishes)
7. Mayorital Difficulties Mayor Quimby goes for a checkup (10 minutes – keep Burns free as he finishes)
8. Medical Industry Corruption Hearing suggestions that all these problems may arise from nuclear contamination, Burns hides nuclear waste (8 hours – keep Hibbert free as he finishes)
9. Grey Matter Losing business because Burns cancels health insurance for plant employees, Hibbert deals organs on the black market (finally, a use for the Orange House – 4 hours and keep Kent Brockman free when he finishes)
10. Kent Afford It Because only rich guys can afford doctors now, Kent Brockman goes for a checkup (10 minutes – keep Hibbert free as he finishes)
11. Corporate Sponsor Searching for new sources of income, Dr. Hibbert sacrifices his principles in a drug company uniform (6 hours – keep Kent Brockman and Krusty free as he finishes)
12. Show Biz Life The rich guys, Kent Brockman, Dr. Hibbert, and Krusty dine together at the Gilded Truffle (2 hours)
13. Kramp Krusty Krusty promotes a new product (not a random task but part of the storyline – 8 hours and keep Homer, Comic Book Guy and Chief Wiggum free as he finishes)
14. The Flavormax Homer, Chief Wiggum, and Comic Book Guy all go to try the new burger at Krusty Burger (30 minutes each)
15. Business Is Picking Up The new burger causes Dr. Hibbert’s business to pick up – Homer, Chief Wiggum, and Comic Book Guy all need to go for a checkup (10 minutes each – Dr. Hibbert needs to be free as they finish)
16. General Hospital Dr. Hibbert prompts you to build Springfield General Hospital ($91,500 and 24 hours – keep Hibbert free as the building finishes)
17. Operation! Dr. Hibbert performs surgery (24 hours)
18. Such a Beautiful Day Dr. Hibbert does surgery outdoors (1 hour – keep Homer and Burns free as he finishes ready for the next level)
