Miss Springfield is a very busy woman – she has so much to do and just to prove it, unlike the other prize characters, she has two quests. If you haven’t read part one, you can take a look here. This post walks you through Miss Springfield’s second quest – A Model Life.

1. A Model Life Part 1 Miss Springfield assesses her priorities…

image
Miss Springfield: And I wasn’t given this moneymaker not to make some money.
With that realization, she spends the next 24 hours working it.

image
2. A Model Life Part 2 Working it didn’t seem to have the desired effect…

image
Miss Springfield: I guess I know what I’m doing tonight…
So, she returns once again to her lonely room at the Sleep-Eazy Motel to spend the next 12 hours washing her hair.

3. A Model Life Part 3 Miss Springfield has another fan letter. But as she can’t read very well, she’s really not sure if it’s from a stalker or a pervert. Realizing that she needs to smarten herself up, she decides to take reading lessons. If you don’t have the Library, though, you’ll need to get to level 12 in your regular game and unlock the Library before you can send her off on this 8-hour task. If you have him, keep Mayor Quimby free when she finishes.

4. A Model Life Part 4 It hasn’t escaped Mayor Quimby’s attention that Miss Springfield has returned…

image
Miss Springfield: Oh, Mayor. I love how you flatter me when you give me presents. Oooo, this is shiny.
Mayor Quimby: It was my mother’s. I borrowed it from her wing of the museum. Are you still abiding in, um, the same suite of the Sleep-Eazy Motel?
Miss Springfield: I am. But I don’t sleep so good there. I toss and turn all night.
Mayor Quimby: That, errr, sounds great. I love tossing and turning.
To complete her next task, you need to reach level 20 in your regular game and build the Town Hall. Only then will you be able to send Miss Springfield to enjoy an evening with Mayor Quimby – all 3 minutes of it.

image
5. A Model Life Part 5 Clearly Mayor Quimby was called away quite early on in his evening discussing his campaign platform with Miss Springfield…

image
Mayor Quimby: I love spending time with you, darling. Now let us never speak of this or tell anyone about it.
Miss Springfield: But my little Quimblebee. I want to take our realtionship public. With an enormous ring. That I can pretend not to be showing off.
Mayor Quimby: Sweetheart, don’t you, er, um have an official occasioning to commemorate?
Miss Springfield: You’re right. And I need to practice. “GENTLEmen, start you…” No. “GentleMEN, start your…”
And off Miss Springfield goes to open a event, which will take her 60 minutes to do outside the Town Hall. And you can have fun making her work alongside Mayor Quimby as well!

And that’s where we leave Miss Springfield.

Miss Springfield and the Sleep-Eazy Motel are at the apex of the prize list, and many people are wondering whether she’s worth the effort to whack your way to her. There’s a post coming on that (but the short answer is that, on balance, I think she is). You’ve seen the Motel already (and if you missed the post, you can take a look here) – but what exactly does she do when you get her?

image
Miss Springfield has two quests – a Whacking Day quest and another one that involves an evening with Mayor Quimby (discussing campaign contributions, I’m sure). As she’s a free character, none of her tasks earn at a premium rate but, oddly for the last prize you can win, she has a Whacking Day task that earns you snakes.

Here’s what you’ll be able to send her to do (if you don’t have her already):

Task Length Cash/Snakes XP
Attempt to whack snakes (outdoors) 12 hours 5 snakes 100XP
Enjoy an evening with the Mayor (indoors at the Motel) 3 minutes $12 4XP
Open an event (outdoors at the Town Hall) 1 hour $70 17XP
Go for a waxing (indoors at Jake’s) 4 hours $175 45XP
Take reading lessons (indoors at the Library) 8 hours $275 70XP
Stay in and wash her hair (indoors at the Motel) 12 hours $420 100XP
Work it (outdoors) 24 hours $600 150XP

Unfortunately, she’s a voiceless character, so you won’t be able to hear exactly what she and Mayor Quimby are discussing.

First – I think all buildings contribute something, at least aesthetically. But that’s not really what the question is asking…

Most of the buildings you add to the game make an ongoing contribution – you collect rent (the shops, houses and restaurants) or they generate income of another kind (Cletus’ Farm, Channel 6). Android players won’t see this in their own towns, but even the School, the Town Hall, and Moe’s Tavern make an ongoing contribution by being vandalism targets and giving you something to clean up to increase your Righteousness Rating.

One building, though, contributes nothing at all to your income – and that’s the Retirement Castle. And another is the Power Plant. They both give you characters and jobs that you can send characters to, of course, but they give you no regular income. They don’t even appear to contribute positively to the conformity bonus in any ongoing way (although building the Power Plant will actually reduce your Tree-Hugging rating and increase your Obedience rating*.)

I’m really not sure why that is. After all, a retirement home is usually a business like anything else – and even the Church generates an income. Unless, of course, the Retirement Castle is government-subsidized, which means that money goes into it and never comes out. And I suspect that every dollar earned by the Power Plant goes into the pockets of C. Montgomery Burns!

If anyone else would like to suggest reasons, please comment!

* Thanks to everyone who contributed to the discussion on this and to warlach for demonstrating that its addition and removal has an impact!

Level 20 is the last of the original game levels. From here, the quests start to get a bit longer and a bit more complicated, as they were designed to keep players occupied until new levels arrived.

The usual general warnings apply and a couple more as well:

1. If you play regularly, your XP bar may tell you that you’re at a much higher level than your real game level. I was already at XP bar level 25 (the highest level at the time) before I was able to unlock the Town Hall.
2. You can only unlock buildings through regular game play – buying a premium character will never allow you to unlock a building early (e.g. Bumblebee Man has a Town Hall task that you won’t be able to do until you unlock the Town Hall in your main game).
3. Because a lot of random quests are starting to come up by this stage of the game, you may not receive all the quests you see here in the same order as they appear. Don’t worry – so long as the main storyline appears to be proceeding, you’ll get to the next building.
4. A special note for this level: if you were able to get the Gorgeous Grampa costume, you’ll be able to put it on Grampa shortly after he arrives. It might be best to delay doing this until after you’re prompted to build the Town Hall.

Lisa should have been free at the end of the Retirement Castle build to move the game on. She prompts the start of the next series of tasks:

1. Good Samaritan Now that the Retirement Castle has been rebuilt, Lisa has something else to do with her free time:

image
So Lisa goes to the Retirement Castle to read to old people (2 hours – keep Chief Wiggum free as she finishes)
2. I Was In The War I Think The return of Grampa means that his stories are back to. And naturally that’s one of Grampa’s first tasks – to tell stories on the couch (60 minutes).
3. For the Birds Grampa may be going through some of his tasks while the tasks leading up to the Town Hall build are going on. You should already have a bench, but if you’ve put it away or sold it, you’ll need to place one so that Grampa has a place to feed the birds (8 hours)

image
4. Re-elect Mayor Quimby Part 1 As soon as Lisa finishes at the Retirement Castle, she’ll begin prompting the tasks the next series of tasks:

image
Homer: I know – it’s a lot of tapping.
Lisa: I’m just saying – we need someone to be in charge.
Chief Wiggum: Fear not! Your authority figure is already here.
And, to exercise his authority, Chief Wiggum heads off to collect bribes – 3 times (at 4 hours each time – keep Lisa free as he finishes for the third time).
5. Re-elect Mayor Quimby Part 2 Lisa is unimpressed with Chief Wiggum’s law-and-order efforts:

image
Lisa: We need someone to bring order!
Marge: How about Mayor Quimby?
Lisa: No! He’s more corrupt than Wiggum!
Homer: Too late – Town Hall already showed up on the build menu.
And because it’s too late, you need to build the Town Hall (24 hours and $48,500, unlocking Mayor Quimby).

image
6. The Buck Stops Here, The Work Also Now he’s back, Quimby has a lot of work to do. And his first and most important task is to write the book on ethics (12 hours).
7. The Mysterious Brown House Part 5 Because there are no sleazy motels yet, and he and Miss Springfield are feeling quite tired from hard work and effective governance, Quimby takes Homer’s advice and goes to take a “nap” in the Brown House (30 minutes – keep Bart free as he finishes).

I guess that means that Mayor Quimby will be as excited about a possible Whacking Day event as we all are.

The walkthroughs will continue…

Note: There’s an extra task which may or may not appear at this stage – Is It Pay Day Already? - in which Quimby collects bribes (4 hours)

With business as usual in Springfield (although that still inlcludes some extended St. Patrick’s Day business), here’s part 2 of the list of animations that tell you when a character is inside a building.

While you can tap on a building to see who’s inside, the animations are an extra bit of fun. Part 2 covers all the regular buildings currently available from Jake’s Unisex Hair Palace on. You can see Part 1, covering all the buildings up to Moe’s tavern here. Premium buildings will be covered in a separate post.

Jake’s Unisex Hair Palace - there doesn’t appear to be any animation
Springfield Downs - the dog-racing animation runs when the dogs are actually racing and when characters are visiting the track
The Gilded Truffle - the windows on the second floor light up (flickering candles and people having a good time)
King Toot’s - no animations
Police Station - flashing red and white lights
Skip’s Diner - no animations
Luigi’s – smoke rises from the pipes on the roof
Springfield Penitentiary - searchlights
Retirement Castle - no animations
Town Hall - shadows moving in the windows
Muntz House - a raccoon runs onto the roof and chews some electrical wires
Krabappel Apartment - a window on the second floor opens and cigarette smoke is blown out
Channel 6 – the satellite dish rotates (when either someone is doing a task or a program is being made)
Springfield Post Office - the front doors open and mail blows out
Hibbert Family Practice - shadows move in the windows
Springfield General Hospital - the lights on the helipad on the roof flash
Burns Manor - a vulture flies out of the dome and sits on the roof
Pimento Grove - sadly unused, so no animation
Wiggum House - flashing red and blue police lights
El Chemistri - it doesn’t get any use after the level 26 quest, but I’m sure there was animation…

Part 3, focusing on the premium buildings, is still to come.

Luigi

As regular readers know, Bumblebee Man is the premium character that readers of this blog would be most likely to buy if they had 60 donuts going spare. You can read some of the reasons why he’s such a popular choice in the premium character and decoration guide, which you can find here.

Bumblebee Man does a lot of his tasks in Spanish (or, correctly, Request for help!) – but that’s not the reason that his quest can be a bit confusing. There are a couple of points where you need certain buildings to continue the quest – and it’s not Bumblebee Man that unlocks the buildings. In fact, premium characters and special quests (like the St. Paddy’s Day quest) never let you skip over the normal order of things. When you get to the buildings that Bumblebee Man needs but you don’t have yet, you need to go back to your regular game tasks until you unlock the building you need. Only then will you be able to continue with his quest.

So here’s the Bumblebee Man walkthrough. Just a warning, though – if you don’t want to know his secret, you’ll need to skip over this post!

image
1. A Del Dos Sano Terrible BumblebeeMan arrives full of optimism – it’s a beautiful day and he wants to play baseball in the park. But things don’t go according to plan – and he believes that’s because, as he’s chased by bees, “Ay dios no me ama!” (God doesn’t love me!). (30 minutes)
2. Ay… Caramba Poor Bumblebee Man – nothing is good in the world-o so Bumblebee Man wanders around your town feeling sorry for himself. (60 minutes)
3. Bumblebee Man’s Secret Shame-o Bumblebee Man confesses to Lisa (who doesn’t need to be free) that he has a terrible secret – he’s really Norwegian and only knows a few words of Spanish (something that should come as a surprise to absolutely no one!). If you already have the Library, this is what you’ll see next:

image
If you don’t have the Library, you’ll need to return to your regular quests, get to at least level 12, and unlock all the other buildings that come before it on the list before you can continue with Bumblebee Man’s quest. Once you have the Library, Bumblebee Man can go there to study Spanish. (4 hours)
4. Me Averiado el Cuerpo! Having finished his study, Bumblebee Man wonders what his señorita is doing – a question that is apparently answered quite quickly. For his next task, you need the Town Hall and if you have it, he can go straight there to commence his divorce. If you don’t, this is what you’ll see:

image
In that case, you’ll need to return to your regular tasks, get to at least level 20, and unlock all the buildings and characters that come before the Town Hall before you can send Bumblebee man there. Until then, his task will remain in your Taskbook.

So that’s Bumblebee man’s quest. It’s only a short quest – but without the Library or the Town Hall it can take a very long time to complete.

This post has been significantly update – see here: http://wp.me/p35pG7-29x

According to your Conform-o-meter, to boost your Obedience rating you need to have public buildings to keep your people docile! Now, this makes it quite challenging to improve at lower levels, as most of the public buildings you need unlock at later stages of the game.

So, what are the public buildings? Well, they’re the buildings that have piles of cash above them and include:
- the School
- the Library
- the Church
- the Police Station
- the Town Hall
- the Post Office
- the Hospital

… apparently, Android’s Dungeon and the Wiggum House!

But that’s not the full story. Like all the other elements of your conformity bonus, the Obedience rating seems to drop when there’s a new level or when you expand your land area. And, by level 24, you’ve completely run out of public buildings.

Fortunately, you can also improve your Obedience rating by putting up signs – and planting lots of the Stop Sign ($385 and unlocking at level 22) and the Hail Ants Sign ($450 and unlocking at level 23) can give it a significant boost. Exactly how many you need, however, will depend very much on the size of your town.

This one’s a little tricky, because the answer is both “yes” and “no”. I’ll explain what I mean later in the post. But first, here are some reasons why you should buy him:

1. At 60 donuts, he’s one of the more inexpensive premium characters.
2. He does his quests in Spanish, adding a little variety to the game.
3. Like all premium characters, he earns you more money and XP on his quests than standard characters do.
4. He has a secret that you only uncover in his quest.

Here are a couple of reasons why not:

1. He doesn’t have a building, which means that there is nothing to add to your town.
2. Apart from a conversation with Lisa, he doesn’t interact with any of your other characters.

And here are some reasons why you shouldn’t buy him too soon:

1. If you don’t have the Library, the Town Hall, or Channel 6, he’s limited to 30-minute and 1-hour tasks.
2. To open up his 4-hour task, you need the Library. This is the 3rd task in his quest and it can get a bit confusing. You see a message to get to level 12 and build the library. However, Bumblebee Man is not the character that prompts you to build the library (premium characters never prompt you to build the main buildings) – Skinner does in an interaction with Bart and Lisa, and this only happens if you have completed all the tasks that unlock all the buildings and characters that come before it on the list.
3. The next task in Bumblebee Man’s quest involves him commencing his divorce at the Town Hall. Again, although you get a message saying you need to reach level 20 and build the Town Hall, Bumblebee Man isn’t the prompt character for this (I wrote about this here) – Chief Wiggum is, following an interaction with Lisa. And, as with the Library, you’ll only be able to build it if you have completed all the tasks you need to unlock all the buildings that come before it on the list.
4. Bumblebee Man’s quest ends there, but you won’t be able to get a full task list for him until you unlock Channel 6.

So, that’s what I mean by “yes” and “no” – yes, you should buy him but not until you have unlocked the Library and the Town Hall in the main game.

image

It really depends on who prompted you, because it can only be built after you have all the other buildings before it. If you bought Bumblebee Man, you might get prompted to build the Town Hall long before you’re ready for it – I waited for a long time before he could go there and arrange his divorce.

In normal gameplay, building the Town Hall is a 2-part task and it’s prompted by Lisa. Chief Wiggum first has to collect bribes three times. Be sure to keep Lisa free for the end of the third time, so that she can be the one to prompt the building (outraged at all the corruption).
