Well, I’m still going to do this weekly post even though I’ve been running the blog myself the last couple of days – thanks for all the support, but I apologize for the small number of posts because I don’t really have time to do it; as a guest author, I have less time to devote to the blog and most of that is spent moderating comments. But, I intend to keep doing a bit of blogging until TSTOTIPS comes back on the arrival of Squidport.

So, to business with the musing. I was thinking earlier this week: the blog, which is expanding rapidly, could really do with a YouTube channel showcasing the thousands of pictures of their town that people have sent in from various requests of things like “What have you done with X?” or “Take a picture of your whole town” or 3D objects made with decorations or texture glitch pictures and anything else. So, I’ve set one up. Here’s a link to the channel. Yes, there’s only one video and it’s a little bit poor quality, and there’s only a couple of photos on it, but as I get better at making them the general look of the videos should improve. For an additional task, see if you can tell which region the accent is from… (Americans only).

I’ll try and mention it on a blog post when there’s a new video, and there’s a few more posts coming in the next few days about things, just to keep some activity up until tstotips comes back on the arrival of Squidport.

According to the game information, Frink’s Robot Dog comes from the season 24 episode “Homer Goes To Prep School“. While I don’t have a video that shows Frink with his dog, here’s a video from the ANIMATION on FOX YouTube Channel the out-of-body experience that led Homer to become a doomsday prepper (and you can also see the Inflatable Gorilla and Baboons):

So, is the Robot Dog really worth your 60 donuts? Here are some reasons it is:

1. It’s a dog – and robot or not, that’s a new member for your Animals and Pets character set.

image
2. At 60 donuts, it’s much, much cheaper than the other member of the set, Santa’s Little Helper. And you don’t have to lash out on vet fees!

image
3. It’s a limited-time character, that’s likely to be no longer available within a few days – and if you don’t buy him, there will always be a Robot Dog-shaped gap in your character set.
4. While it doesn’t have any tasks, it keeps your town looking busy when the characters are doing tasks inside.
5. It does bark when you tap on it, though, and you may be able to get a duet going if ever you can every get it together with Santa’s Little Helper.
6. It’s Frink’s dog – Good Glaven – that’s not enough for you. It’s a dog… and it’s a robot…and it’s Frink’s… It’s a geek’s best friend… Isn’t that enough?

Okay, best move on to the reasons against, then… So here they are:

1. Unfortunately, there are no tasks for the Robot Dog and there is no quest associated with it.
2. None of your characters interacts with it – not even Frink. This makes it exactly the same as Santa’s Little Helper and the Funzos.
3. If you already have Santa’s Little Helper, you don’t gain the $500 or the 10XP that comes with completing a set.

But really, the main reason against the Robot Dog is that, like Santa’s Little Helper and the Funzos, it’s another character that just runs around your town. Still, this is the Yard Sale premium item I’m most convinced about and was happy to buy – but that’s possibly because Frink is one of my favorite characters and I suspect that he’s as much of a completist as I am!

This seems to be a day for design ideas (see rcsprinter’s post, here). And now Obvious Obscure has uploaded the fifth episode in his My Neighbor’s Yard series!

This series of videos has proven to be really popular with readers of this blog – and that’s because it gives you so many ideas on how to decorate your town. So, why not sit back and enjoy episode 5, then spend some time redecorating your town (perhaps thinking about the possible opening of the seashore sometime in May/June).

If you missed the other episodes in the series, you see them by following this link: http://www.youtube.com/playlist?list=PLRlCjoTohneFezCQ16uL69ktwioRISO2i – and if you’re a Minecraft player, there are some other videos on the site that you’ll also enjoy.

There’s been so much to write about (and answer questions on) with this update that I haven’t had time until now to mention some of the smaller changes. In other posts, I’ve already covered the Confirm Donut Spend and Turn Off Notification buttons and the new ability to move and store characters (you can find the post on these on the Whacking Day page), but here are some of the other improvements and additions that most of you will have noticed long before now!:

1. A little blue timer tells you when a character is doing a task. This is particularly useful when you have a lot going on or characters generating multiple tasks (my Homer has a random task to spend 24 hours watching Monkey Trauma Center Marathon – as he’s such a key Whacking Day character, there’s no way I’m sending him off to do that for now!):

image
2. You can rewatch all the cut-scenes by tapping the video icon at the top of your build menu:

image
3. There’s now much more information when you tap on the “i” button in the building or decorations menu. In the building menu and for some decorations, this appears as a checklist showing you exactly what you need to do to unlock the building or decoration:

4. If you go to the Baton mode and tap on your characters, you’ll also find that some of them have some new things to say.

So, lots of small enhancements alongside the huge amount of new content. Now if only EA and Origin can iron out some of those glitches…

Here at last is the eagerly-awaited episode 3 of My Neighbor’s Yard, from ObviousObscure, a regular reader of this blog.

Whether you’re building your town for the first time or rearranging your town for the twentieth, you’ll find some inspiration in this episode. And there’s a great new challenge for you to take part in while you wait for whatever it is that’s coming next in the game.

Enjoy – and please be sure to subscribe to his YouTube channel.

While we all try to figure out what that new update was for, there’s not much to do for higher level players except make your Springfield look even better.

A few days ago, I posted a link to a YouTube video by ObviousObscure that takes a tour of his neighbors’ towns. If you missed it, you can find it here.

He’s now released episode 2. Why not take a look and be inspired!

That’s a really good question. Of course, Apple players can see what their friends do – but Android players can’t see anything.

ObviousObscure, a YouTuber and a reader if this blog, has created a video that let’s you see some of the different designs his friends have used in their Springfields – and he’s let me share it with you. Take a look:
